What's the difference between Madeleine McCann and a tan?
A tan doesn't disappear until after the holiday.

I don't know what bothers me more, that people are making jokes about a small girl who for all we know could still be alive and going through the most horrific things imaginable or that the jokes are just plain old shit.

I just find it ironic that you can be banned from this board for posting a racist joke about nobody in particular, And then encouraged to post jokes about a real life situation of a missing young girl when nobody even knows if she's dead or alive. Double standards me thinks.

Exactly, and the thread started by a mod. :nono:

Oh wind your necks in. The joke Bozza posted was pretty tame and was qualified by this post making a wider point.

It's pretty poor, isn't it? Very badly worded.

Besides this particular example though, isn't it unusual for something to have gone on for this long without a flurry of poor taste jokes circulating about it?

As for the comparison with racist jokes, there is a subjective line of tolerance on any subject. I don't know what you posted to get banned BB but given how flexible the mods are I am confident that you crossed that line. You got banned, get over it.

I hav'nt got a problem with the fact I got banned it's not as if it was the first time and I dont expect it will be the last, It's just if your going to have moral standards on a forum then at least make it level across the board. If racism is wrong then I see jokes about that little girl just as offensive.

You are entitled to your view as to what is acceptable. "Moral standards" are set by the majority opinions of society, they will never be universally agreed upon but I think it's fair to say the majority find jokes about niggers and pakis unacceptable. You don't, fair enough.

so are you saying jokes about a three year old girl who could be tied up in a cellar, suffering god knows what, are acceptable?

The Renault McCann joke in my view is not particularly offensive but I can see why some would see otherwise. Given that this is NSC I think it is a reasonable forum for it to be posted on. I think there is a line, but personally I don't think it has been crossed.

Surely the title of the tread is enough to warn off anyone who may be offended my McCann jokes :jester:
