With all the doomsday talk on here today re the £2m shortfall I remember 3 seasons back we played Hull City at Withdean and if my memory serves me right their fans were walking round the running track at half time with buckets begging for change so they could pay the players.

At the time I thought "poor buggers ! what a state to get in ?" but now look at them today ? one brand spanking new stadium, pushing for promotion to the Championship and having money to buy the likes of Nick Barmby !!!!

DK could not have envisaged the Falmer decision going on an extra 6 months at least, my point is have faith, if Hull can do it so can we.

How did Hull turn it around? Did they change chairman or allow in investment?.

Hull are a massive club , we will NEVER be as big as them!

they were getting 20,000 a week in the 3rd division!

Hull is the 5th biggest city in england

therefore more businesses and fans investing

Hull Staduim was largley financed by Kingston Communications, who basically own most of Hull.
A huge advertising opportunity for them, and put something back into the community that they named there company after.
Who do we have in Brighton - yeah exactly.

Why will we never be as big ? our catchment area is bigger than Hulls and yes they got 20k in the 3rd div AFTER they got the stadium, if we'd had Falmer in 2001 would we not have got 20k ?

there is no way we would get 20,000 at falmer in the 3rd div.
some people over estimate our support ,

kidderminster at home ??? 20,000 no chance!!

more like 9,000-10,000

I believe that Hull City council also built and paid for the KC stadium.

was bought and paid for on the back of selling off kingston communications ... a major telecoms company which was running the local telco system prior to the telecom shake up .. credit to local auth to share windfall with city and provide a great stadium for the city... Brighton and hove take heed what it can do ... ok you havent the windfull but look what its done for hull ... pls help BHA out .. you know in the end you will be repaid back many times over !!

Errr Chesterfield last home game in 2001, Darlington Easter Monday after promotion ? would have easily sold out Falmer with those !

I bet Hull didn't get 20,000 for Kidderminster either ?

I do not over estimate our support, we used to get 30k in the 70's ! football appeals to a much more diverse audience now so I see no reason why we would not get 20k + if we had Falmer.

We have got a huge potential support but realisticaly I'm with Mr.Popkins on this one. We'd have to be doing well in the top two divisions to get that sort of crowd these days. The thing with Brighton & Sussex is that there are so many other great things for the floating supporter to do on a Saturday afternoon/midweek evening that football doesn't hold the same pull and as it does in more industrial cities and areas. Many Sussex dwellers in the west of the county go to Portsmouth or Southampton and, although I hate to say it, many in Mid Sussex support P****e and other London clubs.

my biggest gripe is not being able to decide on the day and just go and support . . . it has to be a big bloody deal to get tickets and sort it all out, queuing up and or having to go into Brighton to collect them, in all honesty organising a race weekend with the car is less hassle, I can do it all online in no time at all, no stupid questions, no daft membership schemes, just pay and go !

Dont start the East/West debate again, but I have to say from Bognor westwards they all go to watch Pompey .

From where I am in Littlehampton it is mainly Brighton,

And I tend to agree about we were a better and entertaining side in the 70's but until we get this Stadium built we can only guess at what crowds will turn up as it has been 7 long years since floating fans on a Saturday have had a chance to just turn up on the day and pay on the gate.

Fair points ditchy and I'd love to have your faith that we'd regularly fill Falmer however we were doing but I just don't see it happening. I hope I'm wrong but the only way we'll ever know for sure is if we get the stadium. The days when we got around 30k in Div 3 were when crowds and capacities were bigger generally everywhere. They have grown again but not to those extents. Outside the top Premier clubs very few get those sorts of gates anymore.

7 years since the Goldstone, but more like 20 since we where any good there, and attracted any number of floating supporters

the lack of floating suppporter and the additional income is undoubtedly hurting us, on top of that Sky TV/premiership probably does as much damage in keeping the kids, and therefore Dads away

V true .. and we wont get 30k with a 23k capacity stadium but i do think we will be able to fill it due to the fact that there are very few sporting or entertaiment critera available in the area except footie ... at the end of the day people will watch but are fed up with the piss poor facilities ..me included... its nobodies fault in the present administration but something we have to put right in the future .. archer = tosser !!
