South American teams and fans take these things very seriously whilst European clubs seem to treat it as a pain in the arse and play it like a friendly mostly, hence the frothing at the mouth by Palmeiras supporters last night.
If they win they seem to think it shows some kind of superiority over European teams.
Bit tinpot that.

I guess it shows they care.
It would be a better tournament if all teams cared rather than fulfilling a FIFA obligation.
But yeah, everone here is crowded in bars or around TVs at home lapping it up.
I doubt it's the same there?
None of my mates have even mentioned it.

Dumb question but how did Chelsea qualify for this?

Infantino plucked their name out of his arse.

 I presume Man City qualified as champions but why Chelsea?

2021 Champions League winners. No, I don't understand it either.
It is based on a four year cycle (like the proper World Cup). The European qualifiers are the winners of the Champions League across that qualifying period (season 20/21- season 23/24) who are Chelsea (20/21 winners) Real Madrid (21/22 & 23/24) and Man City (22/23 winners), plus the next 8 highest ranked sides, after taking out the 'ineligible' teams. England is only allowed two entrants, so as the CL winners had taken those spots, Liverpool missed out despite being ranked high enough.

Ah. Thanks. I didn’t realise it is now every 4 years.

Is it a coincidence that fans, be they local or traveling, all seem to be wearing the same shirts of the football team they are supposedly supporting.
It looks just like the Albion last away game each season where shirts are left on the seats and we all put them on (if they fit :()

Just a heads up everybody - don't forget to set your watches for the big match tonight:

11pm Ulsan HD vs Mamelodi Sundowns.

Somewhat appropriate for a Mickey Mouse tournament, this one's coming live from Orlando, the Home Of Walt Disney World.

Chelsea Manager Points Out 'Strange' Problem With FIFA Club World Cup After 2-0 Win

After Chelsea's 2-0 victory over Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) in the first game of the FIFA Club World Cup's group stage, manager Enzo Maresca didn’t talk first about goals or tactics; he talked about the crowd. Or more accurately, the lack of one.

Only 22,137 fans were in attendance at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, a surprising figure given the size of the venue, which holds over 71,000. The stadium appeared half-empty during a match featuring one of the world's biggest clubs, Chelsea.

Which is about 40 too many.
46 too many.

Years ago they used to have a single match between the South American Champions and the European Champions. Even then it didn't receive a lot of attention.

Worth noting that the last eleven titles have been won by European sides.

It's just a half paced re-run of the Champions League
