Falmer - would be setting a precedent?

Fat badger:

If you read my original post you will see that this person who shall remain unnamed was of the opinion that we had spent too much money going after FALMER thus implying that he could have had more to spend on the team on the field.

It was the clubs wish originally to go to WATERHALL but this was rejected and hopefully JP may suggest an alternative which MAY turn out to be Waterhall. Their original choice. This would then virtually force Brighton Council to go along with JPs recommendation but Lord B has stated that this is not possible due to the laws on planning applications which then suggests that if he is aware of it so is MP and as such another site will have been earmarked.

MP has continually stated that THERE IS NO PLAN B. To suggest that is to treat us all as idiots.

My gut feeling is that MP and DK already know the answer they are going to get from JP.

The fact that we have been promoted suggests that either the club KNOW we are going to get permission for Falmer or they have another site up their sleeves ready to submit another application if needed.

Oh, for fucks' sake. No it f***ing doesn't, you brainless twat. The fact we got promoted was because we won the Play Off Final. THERE IS NO OTHER REASON. Do you honestly think that if the club was expecting a 'NO' decision that we would relinquish our place in The Championship?

Granted, it slightly strengthens our case, but it does not follow that we will automatically get Falmer purely because we are in this division now. Give me strength.

I thought we has gone beyond this pile of horseshit now. Some people have a spectacular lack of understanding as to what has been happening over the past nine years. It seriously scares me that Brighton & Hove Albion has fans as stupid as this. Thank God they're in the minority.

Do you not consider that it would have made economic and financial sense to have stayed in Div 2 as it was then if the club thought the answer would be No and the prospects were bleak. Would DK have allowed the signing of Paul Reid thus increasing the wage bill . I think not. He would have said there was no more money available and we would have just missed the play offs but not cost any more money.

I would say that the club know the answer will be YES.

The Club do NOT know what Prescott's answer will be. That is why they have submitted hundreds of pages of further evidence since the end of the Public Inquiry and the publication of Charles Hoile's report on the Local Plan. All of that evidence, incidentally, has been challenged by the stadium's opponents. The ODPM are still weighing up the arguments.

Falmer is the ONLY site available in the Brighton area that can be developed in accordance with national and local planning policy. There is no secret plan to unveil an alternative, should Prescott turn Falmer down.

Believe it or not, BensGrandad, DK and MP are telling the truth.

To summarise, then, everyone except BG, including Lord B, who clearly has a good understanding of planning matters, believe BG is talking a load of bollox...

Political thinking in important circles is now going for using central sites in Brighton and surrounding districts for employment opportunities and that to put a football stadium there would be against current thinking (arguable becaue it would create employment).

This has come about, belatently, because Brighton has not got a net export of workers (Census 2001), just like the surrounding districts have had for years.

Obviously the Brighton station site is too expensive, but it would be unethical and against political thinking as well.

Building houses on brownfield sites was always shit anyway. What this causes is more workers seeking even less jobs. If you close down a firm employing people, the land should be used to create more employment.

All stadiums, historically, have been built on the edge of town. There has always been a reason for this and it has not changed. Prescott has always known this.

My interpretation.

Just when we thought we'd offloaded Bens Grandad, cue Perseus. Frying pans and fires, anyone?

1. What does 'belatently' mean?

2. Brighton Station isn't unethical. It's just not as good as Falmer for many reasons - including cost. What is the current political thinking? One of the reasons Sainsbury's wasn't turned down was because there wasn't a good enough reason to.

3. All stadiums have NOT historically been built on the edge of town. Only recent developments have. Stadiums have often been built either on a spare bit of ground or slap bang in the middle of town, where the community could easiest get to them. We did not have anywhere near the mobile population 100 years ago that we do today.

4. You mention f***ing Penge, and I am going to get emotional on yo' ass.

I take your point Lord B and accept that at this moment in time nopbody knows what answer JP will give I just hope that he is not influenced by the likes of the Large One which obviously refers to his mouth not his brain.

I would like to think JP is influenced by the likes of me (and the right-minded people on NSC, among others), someone who is 110% behind the Falmer proposals, and is sick of listening to utter shite from people who haven't read what has been going on for nine years.

And I haven't changed my mind about you.

Just for the record I am 100% behind Falmer as it is mathematically impossible to be 110% behind anything as 100% is the complete one. I learnt that in 1950 at primary school aged 7 and I am the thick one.

Rather than argue any more about whether the Brighton Station site is appropriate (or even ethical) as a stadium site, let's just agree on the facts:-

1. Planning permission has been granted for a mixed use development of the Brighton Station site, including a Sainsbury's food store, office, hotel and educational use;

2. The Section 106 Planning Agreement has been completed;

3. Construction contracts have been let;

4. Agreements to lease are signed;

5. Construction has started.

Conclusion:- Brighton Station is not available for a stadium development.

As we have done let us sit and wait and hope and pray that JP gives us a YES. If not? What is the latest rumoured date that the announcement is actually expected?

The Goldstone was, as were a number of other stadiums, Hove expanded to encircle it.

Right - who started this thread ?

Lush. Always has a lot to answer for, that lass. :p

BG: Lord Bracknell and others have clarified the situation several times. Any rumours for the announcement are just that - rumours. For the 100th time this year (but who's counting?) the announcement will be made when the ODPM is ready. The interested parties (football club, councils and other witnesses at the Inquiry) will be informed slightly before the official announcement and they will probably be subject to an embargo being placed on the story until the official announcement is made.

If he really has that much influence, he might resurrect the plans for groundsharing with Palace at Gatwick Airport. :ohmy:
