Opinions are good but usually work best when you get your facts right. Do you believe everything Sky Sports tell you?

The very first season of League football was in 1888-89 and Preston North End went unbeaten throughout the campaign. As you mention the British Top flight (whatever that might be) Rangers won every match in 1898-99.

Not a big watcher of sky sports tbh, but i was reffferring to the modern day i mean how many teams were in the first division in those years (maybe 12 teams).

By top flight i mean the elite/highest league in englsh football

do you really think preston were better than that arsenal team??

Name a team that has performed better over 1 season than that arsenal team. They were simply a joy to watch.

How about Forest and Villa wining the European Cup with limited squads, when it was still was worth something or Spurs doing the double in 1961 or us reaching the FA Cup final in the same season we got relegated? Of course all of that was before Sky and prawn sandwiches so you may have missed it.

Talking about the league and specifically english football so that rules out villa and forest, spurs side in 61 were pretty good, cant say our cup final team were patch on arsenal (they got relegated). I simply saying that no team before or since has played such a pleasing style of football for an entire season. I couldnt wait to watch match of the day that year to see what who was the latest team to be taught a footballing lesson by that arsenal team. I have watched plenty of football (past and present) and have yet to see a team that were as good to watch as that arsenal team.

and i am not an arsenal fan actually was brought up on a mixture of spurs and brighton, saw sense and dont go to spurs anymore

And no i am not a member of the prawn sandwich brigade anymore than you are from traditionalist the flat cap and whippet camp (although bit old fashioned in your views).

its a more interesting topic, no seriously i think i changed the subject because i dont believe arsenal and particularly wenger get enough credit for they way they try to play the game. I admit that does like a moan but then he is french. The french are never wrong. Still think he has done alot for the game in england and still cant stand that tosser phil brown

So you don't remember Liverpool of 1979 or 1990? Or Everton of 1985? Or Aston Villa of 1981?

Stunning to watch, they were.

maybe so but my OPINION is still that the arsenal team were better, a point that stands up to arguement on the basis that.

-The premier league is in my opinion more competative than the old first division ever was.

-And unlike all the above named (preston pre 20th century excepted) they went the entire season unbeaten

Neither Ferguson nor Wenger are good losers. Maybe that's part of what makes them so good at what they do, football-wise. I don't know. I'm no psychologist.

Out of sides I know that have played winning football, that Arsenal side of 2003/4, and how they played at the start of the 2004/5 season, played the most entertaining and beautiful brand of winning football, I'm pretty sure.

Still not a patch on that Preston side, though.

I assume you've compared and contrasted the playing styles and competitiveness of Division One from 30 years ago with today's football? If you did you'd know that the old First Division was not a closed shop of one of only three clubs ever winning the title.

So how is it more competitive?

Going unbeatend is, indeed, impressive. However, if you're going to enter into that kind of scrutiny, why did they not end up with the highest ever points total that season?

-Because it was more competitive and as a result they drew more games.
-My point is more about thier style of play not simply breaking records.
-Division one may of been more competitive on one level but the standard of football was not of the same calibre, a point that is proved by how many different sides won it from year to year, premier league is more competitive because in my opinion all the sides from everton up would of pissed the old first division.

The Spurs Double team won 31 of the 42 games they played in 1960-61, Forest were unbeaten from November 1977 to December 1978, Liverpool won 3 championships in a row from 1981/2 to 1983/4.

The Arse have confounded their history and played some decent football in recent years (Herbert Chapman must be spinning in his grave) but Wenger's lack of grace, myopia and the general smugness of the club and their supporters will always drag them down IMO.

Fabregas wasn't spitting. He was just shouting in Spanish with that exagerated lisp the Spaniards have.

I expect.

Perhaps Nobby should have decked him?

Still think he has done alot for the game in england

What by creating a team full of foreign stars and foreign youngsters? For best teams of all time the current united team could well turn out to be the greatest of them all, but we will never know.

After he walked out on us for 'big club' Port Vale I think I would have spat at him.

Anyone else think Fabregas shouldn't really have been on the pitch dressed the way he was? Fair enough he was injured, but if you're attending a game and going to go on the pitch, you should be wearing either suit or club gear.

Looks a bit bad on Arsenal having players run on at the end of a temperamental game in casuals.
