and he had one of the round above ground pools installed... almost the size of the garden... I had to help clean it out during "Bob-a-job week", even though I wasn't a Scout!
hey Titanic... I've never heard that swimming pool story before - nice one!

Were you also in on it when we got all his empty glass bottles and took them back to the shop down the road to get all the 10p deposits...? I seem to remember a wheelbarrow being involved and it being quite lucrative... happy days! (around the era of your cowhorns bike? :lolol:)

Frankie Howard must have lived in Kemp Town, I used to chat to him in the Ladbrokes opposite Sampsons in St. Georges Road. He really was a great bloke who loved the Albion (a pint and a bet). There was a few old boys who used to frequent that bookies, 'Curley' was a bald Jewish fella (used to be a jeweller) always left you with a joke, and another who used to be in the Kray twins gang (the name will come to me later).......it was like last of the summer wine at times, but they were all great characters. Proper Brighton.

Did reply on the other thread mate...he was running a Post Office in Preston.

Bobby Smith lived in the bookies and Casino!

And was massively in debt to Brighton bookie George Gunn. Gunn stood at Walthamstow and White City dog tracks as well as Hove.

The Kit Napier and Dave Turner lived in houses owned by the club which were provided for players to live in during the normal comparatively short period that players stayed at a club, and when renting was as common as buying houses. Oh how times have changed !

Gerry Ryan ran the Witch pub in Lindfield after he stopped playing (still does possibly). Most miserable bastard I've ever had the displeasure to meet.

Used to let us in when we were underage tho so the pub had its positives.
