But it is politics. All over the world moderate politicians are be thrown out of power and "strongmen" are being elected. They are looking after their jobs by acting in highly nationalistic and irresponsible ways and it's highly successful.

In many ways, I don't blame Erdogan, Trump, Johnson, the Italy or Hungary racist blokes. They are what they are, some by ideology, some by strategy. The point is that they never hid what they were, yet still millions of people have gone to the ballot boxes to put them there and keep them there. They are the ones responsible for the state of the world at the moment.

Agree in principle although millions of people did NOT vote for Johnson to be PM.

Just a few thousand senile, swivel eyed, gin soaked blue rinsers and their fat, gammon faced, racist husbands. Sorry, I meant just the Tory party members.

Erdogan is a nasty piece of work. As much as I am a democrat, I sometimes wish that attempted coup a couple of years ago had come off

The coup that he made up so that he could kill lots of people he didn't like and send the rest to prison? I agree, lovely chap.

Yes, as it's MILITARY AID which has to be spent on US HARDWARE only. That way both Israel and the US weapons manufacturers benefit over the course of the agreement. And this is why both sides of Congress are happy for this to continue. The Democrat Obama, who was about as anti-Israel as possible, even INCREASED the amount of the military aid given.

Fantastic post.

Finally someone else gets it, it's all about the military complex industry. They are all getting rich off it.

That's why so many are against Trump pulling troops out. Not because they care about the Kurds, it's about those people not making money from the withdrawal.

The Middle East is just a cauldron of different tribes all jostling for power. Add history and religion to the pot and that’s why it’s been simmering for ever and boiling over regularly. Even if every tribe was given its own country, they’d be killing each other the day after in order to grab more land and power. Worst of all, we can’t contain it anymore following mass migration so it’s inevitabe
we’ll be dragged into conflicts many more times.
