I suspect the OP and Porkie secretly want Russell Slade, Chris Holroyd and Mark Walton back, tried and tested ENGLISH stars.

Russell Slade did go through a period of signing players with very traditional British sounding, like Tunnicliffe, Thornhill and McNulty. Not particularly outstanding players, but would have fitted the pre-war world of the OP.

This is why we need to invest in our young players we need more U17 and U18 leagues plus the youngsters need to be playing on better pitches including making 3G pitches more affordable . That will help to develop our youngsters. Let hope Brighton could help lead the way in Sussex.

Why does anyone care? There aren't British players in the top sides because we are shit! Look at brighton, a few years ago our team was predominantly British, and we were disgustingly tinpot. Now, we are a top championship side, pushing for the prem and guess what? We have a team with A LOT of foreigners, and we are so much better for it! Do people realise that football is a competitive business, not some kiddy participation sport where players get in teams just because they are British. These trams choose the best players available to make them as successful as possible and the sad fact is British players don't get in these teams because they aren't good enough! We simply font produce enough top quality players!

In the past there was a period of time when Scandinavian players were being bought on the cheap, followed by African players

but now, these overseas players are here on merit

all the time British clubs can afford to pay good wages, they can cherry pick some of the best players from anywhere in the world

French rugby is going through this phase at the moment

the all conquering Toulon side that beat Leicester only had 4 Frenchmen in the side

something the French blame on there performance in the 6 nations

Good grief. Is Yaya Toure really on £220,000 per WEEK?

Again that's why we are building a training ground to attract the best young players from home or overseas and give our exsisting players a good place to work in.
