So the "interesting" squad that Aggers mentioned is exactly the same as the one predicted by most of the pundits

I'd agree with it all apart from Bresnan, he's a very good one-day player, there's no point having him in the test squad when Shahzad offerer some variation

I would have had Shazad instead of Tremlett but other than that I agree.

Geoff Miller is being quite complimentary about Sussex rehabilitating Monty in the press conference.

should have taken the Huddersfield boy Shazad, as he gives us some reverse swing capability, BUT with him being in OZ anyway, if there is a injury he can step in.

Tremlett is presumably there as back-up to Finn, and Bresnan obviously has incriminating pictures of Geoff Miller with farmyard animals.

I think that's a good point.

England's development squad are there anyway, so calling up a replacement is easier than before.

:lolol: I have nothing against Bresnan, just don't think he's a test match standard bowler. Even if you add in the bit he offers with the bat it still doesn't add up IMHO.

No, it's weird. And we have Broad and Swann already, how many more bowlers who can bat do you want?

The only thing I can think of is that if they want to play 5 bowlers in a test, then they'd need a decent batsman but I'd have been tempted to take Rashid if that were the case.

Yeah that's just it, they seem to be frightened to expose Rashid, I'm pretty sure he's had a decent season with bat and ball so not sure what he has to do really?

Can someone just clarify taking into account the time differences when the first test begins over here, is it at midnight on the Thursday 25th or Weds 24th?? Just need to see if I have to book both the Thursday and Friday off work!!

As for the squad, reasonably pleased, Cook will struggle of that I am certain and I guess we would just move Trott up the order when he's dropped. I'd have taken Carberry as cover but we all know the team that will start the 1st test.

I think with Rashid there is a fear of playing him too soon as it destroyed Schofield, who was the last leg spinner of note that England had.

I do think we have to play 5 bowlers and Broad's batting average is similar to Freddie's, Prior's average at 6 is better than at 7, Swann can bat a bit and Shazad is getting there with the bat.

He's not even a particularly good ODI bowler. In the Pakistan series he took 7 wickets at 36.85, with an economy rate of 5.90 (only Yardy's was higher, on both counts). Against the Aussies earlier in the summer he took 1 wicket at 236, with an economy rate of 5.61 (so he wasn't even keeping an end tight). He's a bits and pieces players who is suited to T20 and nothing else, IMHO.

As an aside, I didn't check the Lions squad earlier; Rashid has been omitted altogether! He's on the opposite end of the scale to Bresnan; despite taking more wickets than any other England-qualified spinner, and averaging over 45 with the bat, he's been left out of both squads. Maybe those photos that Bresnan has are of Geoff Miller and Rashid together?!

edit to add: also I've just realised no Bopara! Bizarre.
