Watch them drop Morgan for Pietersen & how does he get a central contract when he does not have a county ? Yes Surrey had him for two games, but ?

The chances are Bell will replace Morgan, Pietersen has not been dropped from the test side at present.

I think Morgan will come good, but in the test side I did feel Pakistan worked him out a tad, he got that century and then not much else.

I would still prefer Morgan to be dropped for a bowler, on those wickets where it is not swinging we are going to need 5 bowlers.

Agreed. There's no genuine allrounder (although Broad has potential) but a 7,8,9 of Broad, Swann and Shahzad would get a few between them. To be honest even having complete no-marks like Anderson, Finn, Tremlett at 9,10,Jack wouldn't worry me too much as I think you need to put pressure on the batsmen to get the runs, and let the bowlers concentrate on bowling.

And that would be ridicolous because of Morgan's might test average of 32 would it? Which is less than KP average this calendar year and that includes two away tours

I think Bresnan is the Plan B. If 4 bowlers doesn't work you stick in Bresnan and drop a batman. He's a reasonable bowler who can bat a bit. He's also a good character to have around the place. Ultimately, though, there's no evidence that he's test class with either bat or ball.

The other thing about the squad is that there's no "secret weapon", or fresh blood. A Woakes or a Shahzad would have been an entirely new proposition for the Aussies, and having Tremlett and Bresnan as bowling back-up looks a tad conservative.

As an aside, I didn't check the Lions squad earlier; Rashid has been omitted altogether! He's on the opposite end of the scale to Bresnan; despite taking more wickets than any other England-qualified spinner, and averaging over 45 with the bat, he's been left out of both squads. Maybe those photos that Bresnan has are of Geoff Miller and Rashid together?!

The more I think abut Bresnan, the weirder it is. There are four right-armed fast medium bowlers in the squad, so let's pick another one.... but one with no real menace. Perhaps they've arranged a pie-eating contest somewhere on the tour and with no Key in the squad, they've gone for another ringer.

I wonder what Rashid has done - there must be a story there. Surely he'd be picked on performance alone. Has be blotted his copybook somewhere?

The other strange omission for me is Meaker. I thought he'd have made the Performance Squad. He offers something that no-one else does: sheer pace. I'd have thought that he'd have been worth developing, certainly in preference to Dernbach.

Not Luton! Thank God
I like Bresnan. He feels a little like Craig White to me. Was mostly mediocre but could come good at a vital time. He had a an amazing tour of India and Pakistan in 2000/2001 bowling very fast. Hope that Bresnan can do the same sort of thing (though admit he's not as a good as bat as White was)
