Im sorry mark but I think you've gone mad! If you had to choose between lampard/gerrard I would personally go for gerrard.

So would I, but on CURRENT ENGLAND FORM there is absolutely no reason to drop Lampard, I think i read he is our most consistent goalscorer which shows something about his contribution.

Gerrard has played alongside Butt, Scholes and Lampard in recent times, but has not looked half the player he was against the Krauts in 2001. When Lampards form goes (and i'm sure it will), then it will be Gerrard who HAS to prove he is as good as we've all seen for Liverpool

I put it this way, If Gatting and Robinson took their chance and scored goals consistently, you would still keep them up front (until they drop form) ahead of Kazim-Richards, who is the better player:)

Unfortunately for Gerrard, Lampard is Mr Consistent :)

Mark, do you have any form of intelligence?

What you are saying is Lampard deserves a place because his form is good, yet Gerrard should be forced into the defensive role (which he obviously isn't as good at). Gerrard can only have a chance in his natural position IF Lampard's form dips. How on earth is that fair? Lampard will obviously look more comfortable, because he is playing how he is used to. How about this - Gerrard is an oustanding player, so we let him play in the position he WANTS to, and is BEST at. Then, we decide who will complement him best, whether it be Lampard, Carrick, Hargreaves (joke). What do you say?

I say:
1) I don't say Gerrard should be forced into the defensive role, i say he should be dropped for a defensive midfielder player (Carrick). Clearly, this isn't going to happen, as Sven (just about understandably) feels that Gerrard will do the business.

2) It is a fair argument, but Lampard has taken his chance and grabbed it, to drop him would be harsh and undeserved in my opinion. If i was a manger, i would pick the form players, not the ones who are percieved as 'better'.

True. Lets face it, we all know that next Saturday, the starting line up is going to be:

Robinson

Neville
Terry
Ferdinand
A. Cole

Beckham
Lampard
Gerrard
J. Cole

Crouch
Owen

The only thing that would change that team is a fit Rooney who would replace Crouch.

True but a chance that Neville may not be fit so id put Carragher in there if GN is not fit. I think that team will do well.

1) Yes, we should have a defensive midfielder - you are right. But, not at the expense of Gerrard.

2) This is where the word OPINION comes in. I don't think Lampard has "grabbed his chance." Yes, he scores goals, but his overall play is hardly inspiring. Stevie G steaming forward from midfield, and unleashing a 30 yard strike - now that is inspiring. It can happen, but only in his true position.

1) I'd say THAT is where the word OPINION comes in.

2) Goals win matches - take Lampard out of the team and you are relying on Crouch, an unfit Owen and gambling (it is a gamble, as he hasn't proved himself internationally, unlike Lampard) on Gerrard.

Those are my thoughts, like it or lump it.
Either way, I am relatively confident Gerrard will prove me wrong with an immense world cup, as he has been incredible for Liverpool this season, and I can't imagine that form would just dissappear, whatever position he plays in.
