Not surprised, that top 3 in ODI cricket is disgusting.

All 3 made starts, not in particularly quickfire time and all 3 got out putting pressure on the middle order to not only make decent scores but immediately up the run rate.

We've been a joke one day outfit for over 20 years now.

Are we not number one in the world in ODI? Certainly we were last year.

Bell can score quickly, he looks out of sorts at present. The problem is Cook and Trott should not be in the same top 3 for ODI's. Although neither of their strike rates is that bad.

Morgan or Pietersen should be coming in at 3.

194/7 from 45 overs

With just Jimmy & Jade to come, these two really need to see it through if we're going to post anything like a defendable total...

Still, you never quite know until you've seen a few overs of the reply...

In this game none of those are great. But career wise, I think Cook's and Trott's ODI strike rates are not that bad.

Cook 64 ODIs, 2456 at 78.4

Trott 57 ODIs, 2379 at 75.4

Scoring at that rate would give England 225-235 total... in other words, they put pressure on the middle order batsmen to score quicker.

Number 1?? What a load of mumbo jumbo.

Who really cares about being number 1 barely a few months after a world cup where every country was re-building and we'd crashed out pathetically as usual.

How many Champions Trophies have we won?? How many World Cups have we won??

In fact we've not ever made the semi-finals of a world cup since we were finalists in '92 which considering there are only 8 serious nations in cricket is absulutely pathetic.

We are a joke one day side and have been for a good while and with our current top 3 we will continue to be for the forseeable future.

well below par and too many players getting in and out after good starts just like in test matches and a rubbish batting display by england and new zealand will make it look so easy

Let's wait until New Zealand bat before we write the post mortems. It is a defendable score (just about), especially considering we shot out pretty much the same team in double figures the other day at the same venue and we are playing 5 front line bowlers.

What's the pitch playing like? It must have been a little damp this morning after the rain we had in recent days. Is the outfield slow again like it was in the test?

Playing devils advocate, have a look where this "rubbish" top 3 are in the current ODI batting rankings. I haven't looked but I suspect they are all top 20 in the world. Bell & Cook have been scoring quickly in ODI cricket in the last 18 months as well. Trott is Trott, there are many positives with his style and some negatives.

Also, the rule changes with 2 new balls means that in English conditions, it's going to be a little tougher at the start with the new balls moving around for longer.

We could do with a Gayle, Sewag type but with Pietersent injured we don't have anyone in that mould. What we do have a is a solid batting line up & a decent bowling attack. There's no use maoning about the lack of a player that we don't really have.
