Argies and Portugal, due to cheats and the greasy winker. I've got a lot of respect for the current German team and was always a fan of Zidane so never really had massive dislike of the French, although Platini is a twat with too much to say about what's wrong with the English game so it will raise a snigger when watching Mexico
and Uruguay play out a bore draw next week.

In football terms, definitely Portugal by a long, long way. Knocked us out of the last two major tourneys we were in, and are cheating, diving, greasy scumbags.

You hate Portugal because they knocked us out twice? Not much of a rivalry is it?

For me it can only be the Germans. Argentina come in a poor second.

We need to embrace Scotland, or if that's just to much, we should never ever acknowledge them. As that would pi$$ them off more than any supposed rivalry.

Scotland, nothing but contempt for them, love to see them embaress themselves at every opportunity.

Germany - Great rivalry but also great respect. And I was at 'that' semi in Turin, bastards.

Portugal? Probably the last nation on earth I would think think of as our rivals - certainly the last European nation. Is this a bit like when we (Brighton) were 'rivals' with Cardiff because we fought a few promotion campaigns with them? Or is it (sadly) the typical English inability to accept that they've just been a bit better than us the last few times we've met? (Reading the other posts on this thread I guess the answer is 'yes'. They beat us because they cheat apparently. I mean Ronaldo WINKED when Rooney was sent off!)

I don't think we've got a rival as such. It should be Scotland of course (I remember when it was), but they're so poor now I just feel sorry for them.

spot on. rooney was sent off for stamping on a blokes bollocks. admittedly a more respectable english form of cheating and they were all over him but fucks sake the amount of self righteousness over that game is embarassing.

Probably depends on the sport. With the Aussies I see that as more of a friendly, joshing rivalry than dislike/hatred, especially in cricket. I would say there is more animosity against the US most of the time - possibly not in football as they've never really been a threat. Still can't forgive the Argies personally, or the Germans. Frech ? Not really bothered either way TBH.

How about you hate who you want to hate and i'll hate who I want?

I really couldn't give a toss about Scotland. An irrelevance, as far ad I'm concerned. I'm more interested in saving my bile for the greasy, cheating, winking, child-kidnapping Portugese.

Ronaldo is one of 'em. What's not to hate?

:lolol: I don't hate Scotland though, like you I think they're an irrelevance. It's a bit like an Everton fan saying they hate Southport.

Anyway, I see the muslim-hating ethnic cleansers have just gone one up against the Jew-gassers. (Aren't these national sterotypes great?)

:lolol: @ Those who voted for the scots. We hardly ever play them because they are SO SHIT. Germany or Argentina are definitely the ones I regard as 'rivals' just because of history.

Argentina for me. I was at the Geneva match when we beat them 3-2 and the goals were celebrated as if it were a World Cup Final. And that was a friendly. The 5-1 win in Munich was the only game that came close for me in terms of satisfaction at beating the opposition.

I know what everyone is saying but if you could pick any team to be playing tonight, in terms of laughs, banter, offs if thats what you are into, and bragging rights, is anyone seriously going to say argentina over scotland? Germans at a push but argentina - come on. i would rather play atrgentina in a final but 9 out of 10 times you would pick the jocks.

i do get the feeling some laughing at the scotland choice are the post home internationals generation and dont really know what they are missing. if i could sound any more patronising.
