He'd get a hattrick against us then.
Unfortunately it was just too predictable and time to admit we are no more than an average international team. Only pluses - Richards looked class and actually wanted it, Fat Frank was better but not great, Joe Cole was OK but fails to deliver the type of final ball someone with his skill should.
On the negative Smith and Dyer simply not international standard, Robinson so short of confidence I now feel sorry for him. This is a team so scared of losing they can no longer win and if they go behind they are lost. A coach with no plan B.

dont flame me, I come in peace...
thought a draw would have been deserved for both, we were poo in the first 20 mins but then came into the match with the new young ones getting used to each other. brilliant goal by Pander, very happy for him on his debut for Germany, he plays for my Bundesliga side Schalke and had a tough time being out with an injury for 18 months.
SWP was quality, and also Richards impressed me. That new kid from Reading was decent (Shorey?), but forget the rest.
hope you can qualify for the Euro next year, no banter if you werent there, and it wouldnt just feel right if England wasnt there.... so dump that joker McLaren and get some decent guy in to do the job....
as for the result tonight.....

Largely agree with your comments. However, if we didn't have a clown in goal, if Owen had his shooting boots, and if our head coach wasn't ginger, I am confident we would have salvaged at least a draw tonight. But Panders strike was indeed a goal to behold, even if it was largely engineered by an idiotic pass from the England captain.

I watched the game with a German tonight.

Like some others I didn't think we were THAT bad. Not particularly good perhaps but some of the comments are a bit OTT. They scored from an error a park goalie would be embarrassed about and from a wonder strike. We had loads of chances and on another night we might have won 3-1.
I thought Lampard and Cole played well - but then Gerrard wasn't getting in their way. We missed Richards' runs when he moved into the center for the 2nd half.
It was I suppose a bit of a pointless exercise as it didn't tell us anything we didn't know already, but no points were dropped so it was a good night to miss chances. It's a bit embarrassing though that apparently they've beaten us at home FIVE TIMES in a row!

I must admit I'm not Lampard's biggest fan but fair play to him. Also wasn't he carrying an injury but wanted to play for England? If that's the case I wish a few others had his committment. Still goes to prove (IMO) that it's Lampard OR Gerrard - but not both. Even the great Sven had that blind spot.

Yesterday was a good chance for all those "Gerrard and Lampard can't play together" people to see the alternative. Well the alternative was Carrick and he was utter gash. He seemed to pass the ball either to the Germans or just straight off the pitch.
Shorey looked good first half but gave it away too much in the second.
Likewise Richards looked good first half as the right back, or right wing a lot of the time. When he was moved to CB it took him out of the game and diminished Engalnds attacking options.

I didn't think it was as bad as people made out. I thought Smith played well and with a bit more fitness/confidence Owen would have scored. Lampard played pretty well, and i'm fairly certain that if Gerrard had done exactly the same as Lampard last night he'd have got Man-of-the Match and everyone would be saying how great he is and that Lampard should never play again

For much of the first half I thought we played really well. Good passing, good movement, and considering we didn't have any forwards worthy of the name it was looking very positive.
Then we just hand the match to them. Safety first. Put the ball out for a corner Shorey, and if you clear it it Robinson - you have to find touch. That is before we got to positioning. And the second goal ............ the "pass" by Terry is something they tell you aged 8 not to do from defence. Fantastic shot, but we gave them the ball centre of the pitch 30 yards out.
At that point we were unable to respond. To get back to doing what we were doing well before. Lawrenson was spot on last night. And then we just gave up the match. Our main attaking thrust was put to centre-back, our most threatening forward was substituted, the next most threatening forward was played out of position (to accomodate an unfit "icon" who must have had it written into a contract he could not be subbed), and we generally ran around without much purpose.
We still created a number of chances - and on another day could have won - even against the clearly superior continentals. In fact I thought the teams were similar. The Germans played their game for the 90 minutes rather than just 30 minutes though. Which is not as easy as it sounds.
