I was watching the game yesterday courtesy of some dodgy Iraqi website so the quality wasn’t great. Am I right in saying Bennett had a bit of an off day? I know he changed sides to offer Elabd extra protection but can’t recall him pushing forward and getting crosses in like usual. Real shame as I feel he is one of our best players, hope he doesn’t get overlooked because of a subdued performance.

Am I being unfairly critical?

He was sacrificed by the manager to nullify their winger/full back who were causing El-abd no end of problems.

The one shame was he didnt show on telly what he can do but im sure being switched didnt help and sure he`ll get chances to show what he can do in the coming weeks, as they all will.

Wasn't brilliant going forward, always looked a threat when going forward, however.
But was sacrificed to do the more defensive side as El-Abd was getting skinned everytime.

An off day yesterday, but he is no left winger and helped El-Abd out a fair bit.

Depends. I think El Abd was getting pissed all over for the first ten minutes or so. Having Bennett in front of him helped El Abd get a foothold in the game and we put in an effective (if nervy and at times messy) defensive performance.

If that was what Poyet was after when he switched them, I'd imagine he'd say Bennett played well, and did his job for the benefit of his team.

I thought he proved how good he actually is. He was very quiet in an attacking sense, which was unfortunate for us as a team, but he showed he's not just about attacking flair. He has alot more to his game than just crossing a ball, he can tackle and defend aswell. He looks a real prospect and he's going to thrive under Poyet's management I have no doubt.

Pat on the back to Slade for that signing, aswell as Crofts.

Other players problems have caused Bennett to be used mostly in defence rather than attack for most of the last two games, the fact that he is versatile enough to do this effectively should nullify any criticism of his inability to shine going forward in those matches, which I am certain he would rather be doing. I doubt he will be getting anything but praise from the management.

I’m not slagging him off. Apart from perhaps his first game with us he has been absolutely immense this season. I just expected him to really show off his pace and skill and make more of an impact. I guess he’s only young and may have been a little overwhelmed by the crowd and the TV cameras.

cant remember what game it was but after one of our many sendings off he went to right back and i thought he looked excellent there as well.

Stockport at the Withdean, AND Wycombe away in the FA Cup! Marvellous little player.

I think this is Icy Gull's point. He wasn't able to show off his attacking flair, as he had to shift to a more defensive left-sided midfield role to help out El Abd. As far as I'm concerned, he wasn't the least bit 'overwhelmed' by the occasion.

That’s good to know. As much as I enjoy watching football, I have never played beyond C team year 9 football so by my own admission know very little of football tactics and wouldn’t dream of rating a professional footballer.
I guess if he was wet nursing El Abd it’s little wonder he didn’t push forward much.

he was quiet going forward, but unlike previous matches it wasn't only bennett grafting - what i'm trying to say is that the rest of the team were better than of late wjich kind of made bennett look not as good as in previous games

Definately one of our best players, if not our best, but he wasn't at his best yesterday.

Nothing really came off for him in an attacking sense, but it won't be long till he shows Gus how good he is.

He spent a lot of time helping El-abd out rather than playing his own game, he can be forgiven for that, he is qualla!

Spot on and key word is versatility, annoying I had £2 on him to score first yesterday but a win is a win
