A NSC user on another thread has claimed that Southampton stewards are having a massive clamp down when we visit them and are planning on carrying out multiple ejections to anyone standing up.

We will sell over 2000 for this one. Can they really control this and ensure everyone sits down?

More importantly will random ejections be enough of a deterant to stop everyone else standing. I just can't see this working to be honest. However Its probably worth avoiding an aisle seat just in case.

I full appreciate why most grounds are all seaters these days but it really does take all the enjoyment out of it when everyones sat down. And it absolutely destroys the atmosphere. I'm hoping this is just Hampshire Seagulls talking rubbish.

This has been going on for years. They have tried to sit down those sitting in the Northam stand (fans to the right of away fans) since the stadium was built but they still stand.

Perhaps a compromise could be agreed. We could squat?

Could always try sitting down and singing and chanting and clapping, unless something exciting is happeneing, see how it goes. Imagine, if it worked, we would have put this particular gripe to bed.

NB, I prefer to stand at games, but sometims I have sat down, and it is quite nice and comfy, especially in the new stadiums.

Last year was fine.

We won't sell out so sit where you please. I shall go for slightly closer to the centre of the goal not near an isle. although thats because of my fear of heights and is helped by having people around me so i can't actually see the steepness of the drop rather than to avoid ejection :lolol:

I really struggle with why some fans have this desperation to stand in the seated areas. It really takes all the enjoyment out of it for me and it's why I don't go to away games any more. Don't get me wrong, I think the away fans are a credit to the club and do a terrific job supporting the team, and they do create a great atmosphere. But if clubs are going to let away fans stand, it would be nice to another area where they could sit and I don't just mean the front of the area where people are standing.

I wouldnt be so confident.

We've sold over 3000 for Peterborough on Saturday, with a days sales left and the possibility of it becoming POTD possibly adding another 2/300. Thats double the distance of Southampton, and some would see (not me) Southampton as a bigger game/more appealing stadium. We're top of the league, and more a less sold out last time on a Sunday when struggling, with the game on sky. This can be done for £7 return with a BUS ID, or £14 return for adults including an all day bus saver!!
Sitting top of the league, we should come very close.

Yes, the only reason you could stand the time before is that it was on tv. I got thrown out for standing the first time we went to st mary's, along with many others and for this reason I'll never go there again.

Surely with it being on SKY that would be even more reason for them to enforce it??

Realistically if its as full as it was last season i really cant see this working. Especially as its a night game as well which means more drinking time resulting in a dont give a f*** what the stewards say attitude.

No offense, and note that I stand at each away game I go to, but the stewards are technically doing their job by doing so. Obviously I dont agree with what they did, because I think standing should be allowed, but both you and I, and everyone that stands is technically committing an offense.
Fair enough most stewards are nowhere near as pathetic about the issue, but to not visit a ground for that reason seems a bit much?

I would say that as you will be placed in the away supporters quadrant you are very controllable - and directly under the control room! If you choose to go in the non-away supporters areas then try to control yourselves when we go 7-0 up - that's another bloody ejection rule (but for your own safety!).

Look at what Superphil says - that's the sensible way to play it, and that's the way it generally works. If it's exciting, get up and let the players know. If the refs being a twat, stand up and let him know. Just don't stand up the whole time.

The Northam is a problem because they were not controlled heavily enough when they first went there, but you will see them getting ejected throughout the match!

Ultimately all we want is everyone to see the match, everyone to get home safely, and us to be more points clear with a f***ing HUGE goal difference! And Hammond to be sent off.

Good luck trying to get 3000 of us to seat down. It might work until you all go trotting back to your positions and then chances are everyone will stand again. Ive seen it time and time again. You'll soon get bored/pissed off and let us do what we want eventually.

You clearly didn't go the first time we played at st marys when there were 3000 of us and about 50 got thrown out.

It's on TV. It's a high profile match. Southampton have a reputation to maintain. Why not just do what you are supposed to do? We have had the discussion about the legalities and the fact that you will find yourself outside very quickly. It's not rocket science. You will have stewards in position all around you for the whole match - not just to make sure you do as you are supposed to but to protect you from the idiots in the Northam and to protect you from the idiots you bring with you. If you can't behave, then save yourself the effort and stay at home, it really is very simple.

Try this test...

Do you understand that you are subject to legal Ground Regulations when you buy a ticket?
Do you understand that the club has the final right to eject you if you breach any of the regulations?
Do you understand that an ejection will lead to prosecution and a banning order?
Do you understand that even if you think you have got away with it you will have CCTV camera trained on you for the whole of the match and Southampton and Brighton will be liaising to spot the idiots and serve them after the match?

It's very simple. Why not try the novel idea of going to the match, behaving like an adult, and enjoying it rather than trying to show what a "webel" you are by standing up? Trust me, you look a lot less cool when you are being led out begging to be allowed to stay with your mates.

We managed to sit down and still sing at MK Dons a few years ago. Was a good atmosphere too given we were shit at the time.

The left side/right side chant seemed to go on forever that day.

No i went last season and all was well. But as you mentioned thats perhaps because of sky. I dont think this threat is enough to stop me going to this one but its certainly taken a bit of the anticipation away. f***ing stewards. Ah well, more reason to make the most of the terraces on Saturday.

It's not like I've cancelled Christmas! It's going to be a good match, we are going to stuff them and I will probably end up being ejected because I am working in the Chapel End with the Southampton supporters - and if you think I am not going to cheer when Murray buries his fourth goal of the night, then you need to think again!

Sit down when the stewards tell you so it looks like you they are doing their jobs, everyone will be standing a minute later anyway. It's not difficult.
