Eastbourne United v Albion reserves

Oh yeah, Brighton won the football 5-2 if anyone gives a shit. United pushed them all the way in torrid conditions, but Albion's professionalism shone through in the end.

Pretty strong side from us (Albion), with Jones in goal, Mayo, El Abd, Hinshelwood, Hammond and McPhee all playing the full 90 minutes.

Robinson got on in the second half and showed some nice skills.

David Lee played the whole game and still looked shit.

Cheers Safeway, I was wondering if anyone was gonna post what happened.

Shame Robinson didn't start.

I thought Robinson played both halves - mind you, he was on the far side on the wing so you must have missed him!!!! I believe he also scored in the first half!

Oops! Must have been too busy talking to Albion Rob about stuff.

Now you mention it, he was wearing number 7 which would suggest he started. The main reason I thought he came on as a sub was because at the start of the second half his kit didn't have a bit of dirt on it - quite a feet given the mudbath they played on!

On a personal note it was great to go back to The Oval for the first time in what must be nearly ten years to watch a game. Shame to see it so run down (the only noticeable change was the lack of running track. Even the two women serving tea were the same that were there when I ball-boyed in the early 90s), but if what's been written in the local press recently is to be believed then hopefully soon it'll undergo a much-needed facelift. .

(Note to self: must get to more United games.)

That's because he changed the kit at half-time. So I guess you must have missed the second goal that he smacked in - in the FIRST half  Are you after a job with The Argus or the official website?

He was playing right-side of midfield for most of the match, which confused me too in a different way as I don't think he's ever played there before. Clearly this thing about playing people out of position extends to the reserves too.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
Its not playing people out of position, its called experimenting in a game that you are pretty assured of winning !

Its how you develop players and give yourself more options :jester:

And you've met all 100,000 of us have you? Which category do you fit in, or are you somehow separate from the phenomenon you observe so expertly?

I've met a fair proportion of them having lived there for 23 years. Which category do I fall in? Probably the poor scum, unfortunately.

My thoughts on the game:

It was played in atrocious conditions and was sprinkled with scrappy goals. We looked a cut about the United lads who weighed in with some rough challenges as it became obvious the gulf in class could not be levelled out by the pitch.

McPhee and Robinson shone, the centre backs looked ok, if a little lightweight.

Jones has an incredibly broad bumpkin accent and no-one seems to listen to him.

Overall, the lads cruised through, but will have to play better against Eastbourne Borough in the next round.

A bit of a cruise in poor conditions and Robinson did indeed score in the 1st half. Jones' West Country accent is hilarious and i'd pay him to sing 'Iv'e got a brand new combine harvester'.

Where were you, Micky? Should have come and said hello. Hell, at £1.85 a pint I might have even bought you a drink!

Were you wearing a badge with 'Safeway' on it then?:)

I was well wrapped up standing on the half way line with my girlfriend who was pretty tolerant considering the shite weather. I did nip into the club house at half time for a coffee and to check out the old team photos as my girlfriends dad used to play for United.
