Right here, right now
Construction of the world's first moving building, a 80-storey tower with revolving floors which give it an ever-shifting shape, is due to begin.

The Dynamic Tower, which will be built in Dubai, will feature 80 pre-fabricated apartments, spinning independently of one another.

"It's the first building that rotates, moves, and changes shape," said David Fisher, the tower's architect.

"This building never looks the same, not once in a lifetime," he added.

The innovative, 420-metre (1,378-foot) building's apartments would spin a full 360 degrees, at voice command, around a central column by means of 79 giant power-generating wind turbines located.

Imagine going back to your room - room spin regardless of whether you had a few beers too many.

They really do have more money than they know what to do with down there, don't they. What a completely POINTLESS excercise.

Well, to be fair to them, if we're going to pay them SIX POUNDS for a gallon of diesel, they need to find something to spend it on.

Is it an urban myth or true that many of San Francisco's skyscrapers are built on ballbearing type foundations that allow the buildings to move in the event of an earthquake? Anyone know?

And here is what will be the world's tallest building currently under consruction in Dubai. Estimations are that it will get to about 2600 feet but the contractors say there are provisions to make it over 3000 if the building remains stable as they continue to build.!!

From various articles I get the impression that those aren't permanent and that the building will go higher.

Out of those I've only seen Canary Wharf and the Empire State in the flesh. I can't imagine something nearly twice the height of the Empire State Building.

Frightening.
