In Burgess Hill last night the police were testing everyone for drugs on their way into the Hogs Head. They took a swab of sweat from your palm and fed it into a machine which then gave a reading on the spot as to which drugs you've been taking.
I think the police are bang out of order and it's yet another example of them making criminals out of ordinary people rather than targeting career criminals and people committing serious crimes, just like they have done with motorists.
What are people'sthoughts on this?

Anything that can be done to reduce the drug taking must be good move.

If you see the rubbish that used to go into the Hogshead. as it was in, Burgess Hill you would understand why the police do it.

I'm not necessarily for clamping down on people coming into pubs having taken drugs, depending on what they were, but as someone who's worked in pubs (as a lot of people on here probably have as well), what really needs doing is stopping people from getting drugs INTO pubs. And I'd imagine this provides a good indication of people who are in possession, and is probably easier and quicker than searching people.

Is having drugs in your system a crime?

Surely drug pushers are career criminals. If you stop people buying drugs, then you stop the crime that goes with it. Selling of, posession of, some of the breaking and entering done by adicts, etc.....

Hardcore drugs lead to many more crimes than you would imagine.

Every passing day, this country becomes more and more a police state.

It's about time this countries people stood up to the eroding of civil liberties from a supposedly socalist government.

Where is this all going to end tagging everybody and compulsary DNA testing?

Victoria Police in AUs are the only Police FOrce in the world to do random drug driving tests.

Big bus roadblock and they take a swab of saliva and can test for marijuana or crystal meth...

If found positive you get a fine and some points on your licence.

Been big problems with the accuracy of the tests...

compulsary DNA testing?

What is wrong with that if every person had their DNA taken either at birth or at school now it would drastically increase the detection rate of crime. I have nothing aginst having my DNA put on a data base because I haven't committed a crime for which I could be found out.

If the test proved positive, did they take you for a blood test to confirm it? If not they are probably on a bit of a dogy legal wicket as you would probably pick up traces of weed if you sat in a room with someone doing it.

Plus:

Ephedrine is present in a lot of cold remedies and speed
People who have ate Poppy Seeds have been known to fail tests for Heroin

The difference between this and testing drivers for drink is that the police are only supposed to stop you if they notice you are driving badly, although in this case i imagine it can be got round by having it as a condition for entering the pub.

Would help in some missing person cases as well. Isn't there a voluntary scheme in place?

When I got pinched in my car a few weeks back they shone a torch in my eyes and tested my pupils ??? I was like wtf...

Dilated pupils are a symptom of taking ecstasy. Or so I am told. By people who have taken it. Because obviously I haven't.
