Butters imo has been key this season and rate him as our most important defender! he can partner anyone were as lynch hinsh el bad struggle to gel. he also shows his natural class of reading the game and that extra bit of control not rushing in(even if he could :jester:)

Similar to what we did with Virgs a few seasons back - move Guy to centre forward and after a few goals he'd soon adopt the nickname 'Bullet Butters'

but the problems are coming from not winning the first ball in the air. Also lynch and butters are only together because hinselwood, don't take the piss out of the spelling, is injured. And when we played yeovil i think it was on boxing day, the lack of pace that cost us hugely was easy to see.

Can I take the piss out of your inability to use a capital letter when one is needed?

Your observations have been made using Arsene Wenger's glasses. Butters has not been at fault for goals this season, he uses experience to make up for lack of pace, and wins most aerial challenges.

I don't think that Butters is playing that badly and we do badly need his experience but I do think age is creeping up fast. I certainly would not drop him at the moment and personally, I'm glad to see the back of Santos. I do think we need to be on the look out for Butters successor though.

The one factor that does hinder the team is his lack of mobility. When we play teams that have quick forwards, the defense tends too play too deep and leave a big hole between themselves and midfield - allowing teams space to play. During our recent good run, the defence did not play so deep and the central midfielders were able to help out the centre backs by denying the forwards any space. This led to us not conceeding too many goals but we were playing teams with not much pace upfront.

He's definitely been our best and most consistent defender this season. To drop him would be ridiculous!

Drop Guy Butters!? You would have a devil of a job picking him up in the first place.

We are in dire need of experience and to drop Guy would be suicide. What he lacks in pace, he makes up in bravery, anticipation and winning the ball in the air.

Take the Bournemouth game for instance. We conceded something along the lines of 40 crosses, which would suggest our full backs are not up to the job. Granted, I did not go to that game, so I am not really 100% sure of that. I have been to all but two of the home games and it is patently clear that Guy plays a valuable role and is able to offer more than just an aerial presence.

Ps Do we have to talk about spelling!? It is not everyone's forte!

I was just wondering wot every1 thought of guy butters this season, although he is an albion ledgend, i feel that he may be playin for us one season too many.

He appears to have lost all of his, wot was already lack of, pace. and he doesnt seem to be winning more then at least 20% of 50/50 headers.

please leave comments.

I don't think you could be much wider of the mark if you tried. Is this actually a wind-up?

He wins almost every header, most games, including the first half at West Ham where he OWNED Carlton Cole.

I actually think that, far from being a season too far, I think he has a reasonable chance of getting one more year, particularly as it seems certain we will be no higher than League 1.

I'd agree with that and be happy for him to get another year. He's talking to the other defenders all the time and advising them on covering positions.

I thought Butters looked finished towards the end of last season, but I've been quite pleased with him this year. As long as we can put pace alongside him, then he is going to do a very good job for us this season.

His experience is very important to the side as well. Some games he's probably the only player who has needed to shave all week.

Ahem. This is a joke.

My guess is that it's started by an Albion team-mate, or GB himself.

Of course, he might have upset some dim player on another team while keeping him out of the game completely and repetitively calling him :tosser:

.....naah, that can't be because he's a gentleman from the old days, like Stanley Mathews.

anyway, it's a wind-up I'll bet Guy's wages on it.
