If Dowie is our man then although we believe he is not under contract at Oldham then should we make a conscience payment to Oldham in lieu of compensation.

I think we should, and that it should be a sizeable sum.

no, why should we that's not how football works these days, what if we give them a sizeable sum and they go bust the next week.

A lot of fans have donated money to clubs 'in trouble'. Wouldn't this just be the same, except it came from our club.

They need the money because of all the overspending they did over the last couple of seasons.

We have stuck within our budget and kept out of trouble.

Other clubs have done them favours. Although they bought Oldham players they bought them for a lot of money when they could have gone for less.

I'm not sure we can afford to though.

DK has to act in the best interests of the club - and would that, with all our legal bills etc involve handing out a six-figure sum voluntarily to a club whose manager is not under contract? It's a nice thought, but beyond the call of duty.

But admittedly I'm not one of those who think we've been particularly shafted on Coppell, just a case of 'that's life', however annoying. Like everyone else I just can't wait for the day when WE'RE the club with the facilities, the ground, the team....

Yorkie - the same could have been said for us several seaons back, with apparent overspending in the eighties etc.

If you've been bleating about that Reading car dealer's hypocrisy and now want us to do the same to Oldham what does that make you??

I don't think everyone has been crying 'hypocrisy'. For anyone who did, you're right. But it's so obviously a case of 'what goes around, comes around' that people doing that are just making a rod for their own backs.

Madejski looks stupid, he should have kept his mouth shut over Pardew. But all the emotive claptrap about disloyalty, hypocrisy, poaching re Coppell is garbage, that's the way it works.

If you worked for a company on £25k a year based in a drafty Portakabin, and someone offered a similar job for a bigger company at £40k with a top office, nice secretary, prospects of the company taking off nationally, gym membership and other benefits, you'd take it. That's all Coppell's done. We just need to lose the Portakabins, metaphorically and literally.

If we've just received £xxx thousand pounds compensation from Reading, how can it be money that we don't have.

While the ethics may be the same, Dowie is not under contract at Oldham and can leave or be asked to leave at any time without recourse from either side whereas Coppell and Pardew were under contract. Mad Man said he wouldn't go for another contracted manager and then took SC, there's the difference

Anyway, if Oldham get taken over, who's to say the new owners won't do an Al Fayed and sack the manager to bring in a big name (ask Adams for details!) - then Dowie wouldn't be entitled to a penny in redundancy.
