As someone who did a University degree and a Masters specialising in Nazi Germany, I simply say…yes. It is. Or at least it could be.

Trump invoking the Insurrection Act will be the equivalent to the Enabling Act of 1934. The suspension of democracy with no obvious means of bringing it back. Only once that happens do things start to get really unpleasant. That’s when the mass firings and silencing of the dissenting voices will start. That’s when the crackdown on “the intelligentsia” (higher education, judges, journalists etc) will start. That’s when the en masse rounding up of people without charge will start.

Because what is there to stop him? We know he has no moral compass. We know he’s enabled by lapdogs around the top table. He’s already stacked the Supreme Court, and even if they ignore him they can be “dealt with”. All bets will be off. Only a military intervention would likely be enough to stop him at that point, hence his desperation for the top brass to swear allegiance to him rather than the constitution.

It’s always worth remembering, Nazi Germany didn’t start with Auschwitz. It didn’t start with territorial expansion. It started with consolidating power at the top with no means of challenging it. Once you have that, you can basically do whatever the hell you fancy, because nobody can stop you. You don’t have to setup extermination camps and invade France, you can divert 10% of the national gold reserve into your own bank account. You can build a 150ft statue of yourself in every major city. You can rename Washington “Trump City”. Because who would stop you?

If I were King Charles, I’d be considering how I could offer the Obama family asylum over here, because Trump will come for them. And the Bidens. And the Clintons. And Nancy Pelosi. And Kamala Harris. And Bernie Sanders. And AOC. And the rest.
Still, egg prices have dropped.

If he lets them wear masks instead of having them arrested for doing so, then the spitting isn't an issue.

I'm just still amazed the the President of the United States can get away with calling Newsome 'Newscum' again and again. He's just a big kid.

This is surely illegal. I thought he would try to seize full control but not this quickly. Shocking.
it's quite legal and been done before (1965 Lydon Johnson to protect civil rights marches). apparently it's quite nuanced, he's deployed NG to protect Federal buildings. they aren't allowed to do anything else, like quell rioting, just stand around Federal buildings. it's all a performance really, aimed at the MAGA types, he tweeted what a great job NG was doing when they hadn't yet deployed. does it escalate? who wants that, Trump just wants a week of looking good in strong and create a news cycle. trade talks not going so great for US, so this is handy.

Also needs to deflect from his bill.

I fear I am going to wake up in the morning to read about a US Marine shooting a US civilian live on CNN on the streets of a US city
It wouldn’t be the first time (National Guard not Marines though)

He's getting on very shaky ground if he's sending in the marines.....

I think this is now the first time the actual military (not the National Guard) has been deployed against American civilians since the Civil War.

I still hope that the important people in the military know that he's a weapons grade bellend and have no intention of following orders to fire on American citizens though.

Scary stuff.

This part has already started: "That’s when the crackdown on “the intelligentsia” (higher education, judges, journalists etc) will start. That’s when the en masse rounding up of people without charge will start."

At what point will the majority of MAGA understand that it's not about MAmericaGA at all... it's about concentrating absolute power and wealth in the hands of a very few people, Trump, Vance? and their cohorts.
AND they may not get to this understanding until it's way too late.

Yes, very scary - I'm not convinced the military will go against Trump's orders, there may be a bloodbath first.

They don't care. As long as something (in their view) "owns the Libs", they're happy.

Some of Trump's biggest fans now cannot stand him

More and more, even some of Donald Trump’s most loyal supporters are beginning to distance themselves from him. In some cases, his behavior hasn’t just driven a wedge between him and his base—it has pushed former allies to cross party lines and align themselves with the Democrats.

Such is the case with former Republican congressman and Tea Party firebrand Joe Walsh. On his social media accounts, Walsh announced that he's joining the Democratic Party, citing an urgent fight to defend American democracy.

Walsh, once a staunch Trump supporter and vocal conservative, revealed the shift in a recent post on his Substack titled "Three Words I Never Thought I'd Ever Utter: I'm a Democrat."

Walsh wrote, "Anyone who cares about the Constitution cannot sit by and watch as fundamental American values — the rule of law, democracy, pluralism — are attacked."

Donald Trump weighs in on 'civil war' concerns

On Monday, President Donald Trump was asked about Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom's remarks that his Republican administration wants "civil war on the streets" amid ongoing protests against raids by Los Angeles Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The president was asked by a reporter, "What do you make of the fact that [Newsom] says you want a civil war?"

Trump responded, "No, it's the opposite. I don't want a civil war. Civil war would happen if you left it to people like him."

Newsom told Fox 11 Los Angeles that Trump had taken an "illegal, unconstitutional act in federalizing the National Guard," which was putting lives at risk.

The governor also said that he had spoken with Trump in recent days and that the president had not wanted to engage in conversations around what was taking place in Los Angeles. He also said there had been no request from local leaders for federal aid.

"He's exacerbated the conditions. These are images that Donald Trump created," Newsom said, adding that nobody could negotiate with the president.

The governor was asked about Trump's claim that he had told Newsom that if he did not get things under control, then the National Guard would be sent in. Newsom said Trump was a "stone-cold liar" who had not said that.

"He's not for peacemaking, he's here for civil war on the streets," Newsom said.
