Then you aren't a true fan. Imagine just wanting mid table every season and not having a chance at winning something. Weird.
And neither of us has evidence one way or the other, in fairness.
I wouldnt worry too much Essbee. The pack on here like to hunt out anyone who dare have a differing opinion to the majority.

Once hunted out they then spout out the following tedious lines:

- Why dont you go support someone else
- You're not a proper fan bla bla bla...

People should learn some respect on this board that not everyone shares the same opinion and just leave it there.

As mentioned on here earlier in the thread, I'm with you Eeesbee, the competition holds very little interest to me, the teams in it or the chance to win it just doesn't excite me, just like the LDV vans trophy didn't get my juices flowing back in our league 1 & 2 days when I watched us home and away.

I get the Europa league, big clubs, big stadiums, big European nights at home and away, huge attendances with some European powerhouses. That tournament was worth the probable decimation of our entire domestic season, which would happen again if we were in a European competition. I'm shocked any Brighton fan would get anything out of beating Shamrock or Noah FC. What a coup!

But I guess I'm not a proper fan and I should go support someone else....Yawn!

It is perfectly ok to hold a minority view without getting defensive and pissy about it.

I have modified my position.

If we get into the competition, it will be fantastic and I will be delighted.
If we fail to qualify, it doesn't really matter, as it would have been a distraction.
If Palace qualify for the Europa league, it will degrade the competition and their failure next season will be embarrassing.

Worthing
If ( big if, for more reasons than one) we did enter and win the Europa Conference thing, we could then sing “Champions of Europe “ like West Ham do.

They were saying the same thing about us when we were in Europa League last season, apart from that night in Rome we made a decent fist of it.
Have no doubt Palace would do the same, getting Europe would possibly mean keeping Eze, Guehi, Wharton etc.

My opinion is aspirational rather than expectational

It won't.
That summer, despite getting UEL, we lost Ali Mac & Moises. That ripped the heart out of our midfield. We are only recovering now IMO. We also lost Colwill.
If LFC come in for Eze then he'll go. If NUFC get UCL and come in for Guehi again then he'll go. Wharton might stay, but City are supposedly courting him.
I think they'll lose 2 this summer no matter what, maybe all 3. They will replace them, they seem to have their scouting spot on TBF. However it will take time to build a new spine, if they are Sun-Thu next season then I can see them doing a WHU for at least 1 season.
If the worst happens on Saturday and you're one of those players then you have to be thinking "this is it", it won't get better, leave on a high.

My main wish is someone comes in for their manager.......

50% of the top 30 clubs paying the highest wages in Europe are from the Premier League. Any Premier League club entering one of the European competitions should be at least make a decent fist of it.

The Conference League is the equivalent of the Milk Cup in that you should enjoy the matches but aren't that bothered if you go out of it. Unless you are Chelsea, in which case you don't bother to turn up and then complain when away fans take over your stands.

I haven't ever said that I wouldn't like us to win the FA cup or the Carabao Cup or whatever. My issue
is with an extra euro (what I see as an insignificant cup) cup that costs us 5 or 6 more games for what? More injuries?

If we win the League Cup we’d be in exactly it situation we could possibly be in next season. A probable 8 extra games, at least, in the third tier European Competition, for what? More Injuries?

The challenge is the same whether we qualify this season, next or in 5 years time, through league position or winning a cup. No matter if it’s Champions League, Europa League or Conference the risks on the squad are same even if the financial rewards are higher.

I’ve said it before but we either embrace it for what it is and what it means we’ve achieved or we never qualify for it because it’s a risk and accept 9th is the best place we should risk finishing to preserve our PL status.

You could be right, there are rumours that Glasner could be off and that might see them go but Palace also pay more than we do as we know from when Zaha was on stupid money. Eze would go from top dog to squad player and it doesn't always work as we saw when Grealish went to City.
Playing Thursday-Sunday is definitely a big issue and you only have to look at Spurs and Man Utd to see, i think if Brentford do get 8th they could suffer the same way.

Any one not wanting it presumably didn't go to any of the away games in the UEL! Best time ever!
The 7 other teams in Europe will have the same squad size as us, except maybe u21s. So I don't see injuries as a reason to not want to be in it. I know there are some lower teams in it but who wouldn't want to go to Real Betis or Fiorentina? I also think some of the smaller teams could be great long weekends.

Yeah but the financial rewards of qualifying for the Champions League are huge and complemented by an accompanying increase in the quality players a can attract. So the challenge isn’t the same because the only limit to improving the squad would be then be profit and sustainability rules.

The NSC proper fan Stasi like to show off their self gratifying credentials on many threads. I leave early so know all about them.

We might be able to attract better players but that doesn’t take away the risk of injury and burn out from extra games. That’s the same whichever European competition we qualify for.

The only way to combat that would be a huge squad but then you run the risk of disharmony in the squad if players aren’t getting enough games or financial risks if we don’t keep our income at that level.

It’s undoubtedly a huge challenge but while I can’t see it being doable while in the ECL where there‘s no economic or recruitment upside I can with the EL and in particular CL. Indeed Newcastle might well do so this season after one year absence from all European competition and Villa by re-qualifying for the CL or at worst dropping down into the EL. It’s true Chelsea might too while only playing in the ECL but they’re an exception because not only are they still considered as a CL-team-in-waiting by agents and prospective players they ‘cheat’ by using amortisation and selling hotels to themselve!
