Do we really need another striker?

Gus has said that he would still like to sign another striker. We now appear to have three strikers capable of cutting it at this level - with Barnsey confounding the doubters (which might have included Gus himself).

He also has the option of playing two out-and-out wingers (perm any two from three!) and one striker.

Midfield seems well populated with quality players and our defence has been magnificent so far.

Perhaps one defender on loan - and that's it as far as I'm concerned.

No we don't. But if we can get a top class one then we should. Someone coming to the end of their career who is happy to play a bit part and act as a mentor to the young strikers. A Nicky Forster type would be ideal.

But we don't offer much of an aerial "threat" up front atm, should we need to change tactics during a game.
Also, should the central defence need to be changed due to injury/suspension etc then one of the likely replacements (TE) still tends to opt for the long, high forward ball if at all pressurised by the opposition. Without someone who can win some of these and hold the ball up then you're just giving away possession every time.

Yes, an aerial man - when things aren't going to plan to bring on for the last 30-35 minutes, or perhaps against specific teams?

i dont want to see another foward coming in if he has only played at this level, however if he has played in the prem and scored a good few, maybe even an international then def yes as that can onlyimprove us big time

We lack a target man who can hold the ball up with his back to goal. We don't have such a player right now

But we don't play a way which means a target man is necessary. We don't lump it up from the back, we pass through the team with a gradual build up leading to the strikers receiving the ball at their feet.

However, I would take a quality 'big' striker if we can get one, just as an option to come on from the bench in case a change in emphasis is needed.

Agreed, I've said all along, Marcus Bent would be ideal.

Yes we do 100%,,,first three games has proved you need four natural strikers. There will always be a suspension or an injury to someone and with cup games included we could well be looking at 50+ games this season.

Heard from an AFC Wimbledon fan that unless a Championship club make him an offer he will be signing for them in this transfer window.

Personally would prefere to see someone with a much better aerial threat. Someone in the mould of Fletcher at Wolves would be great.

It's true, so why don't we nip in and get him?? Would be an outstanding squad player, and a great option from the bench. The man is a brute and is excellent in the air, much better than Fletcher.

If they're better than we already have, then get them in. I don't care if it's a striker or a steward! We have a great squad at the moment but we should always been looking to improve. I don't think Gus is the kind of manager who'd let things go stagnant.

This has to be a joke??

We have enough firepower up front all the time the ball is on the ground but feel occasionally we will need some more height and muscle for set pieces etc.

From what punters say on here Bergkamp is not up to it. Would be good to get in an experienced head - probably not within our budget but Roque Santa Cruz has said he would play in the Championship. Might not start many games given how we play on the floor but could be good for knock downs to CMS etc.

The problem having yet another forward will be the lack of space on the smaller subs bench. Gus already has the luxury of juggling Nooney and KLL to rotate with Buckley in support of CMS / Hoskins / Barnes.

If Harley comes in then another midfielder will need to drop to the bench, thereby shunting others down the pecking order. Vincelot will be useful to cover both defence and midfield. It is a great shame but I feel for Jake F-C as all this means is he will get even less outings than we would like to see.

I guess it is an interesting position to be in - we need a strong squad to match our ambition to competitive and a contender in the Championship and to give resilience for the season. Secondly it is important to have a development squad hopefully comprising of home grown talent from our academy - but the strength of the first team squad means we may have less chances for youngsters in the first team.

i can personally already see enough goals coming from attacking midfield and the wings to justify not needing another striker. IF we had to get someone in, it would have to be a target man - Iwluemo??
