The plural of anecdote is not data - providing one example in the Daily Mail is categorically not proof that ethnic minorities have an advantage. For every example of a black/asian person getting something they shouldn't, there will be an example of a white person getting the same. Of course, if you restrict your reading material to either the Daily Mail, Express or Star you won't see the other examples as it doesn't fit their editorial narrative (and if you've been watching the Leveson inquiry you'll have seen their journalists fully admit this).
Seriously, can you back up your statements other than with tabloid quotes? [MENTION=11956]bushy[/MENTION] you even say it's "official policy" - provide a link to this policy that gives "blacks and asians" any advantage?
And please don't play the "I've lived there" card - I lived in Peckham for 3 years and still do live in South Bermondsey now, and I have never witnessed any "shit being dished out to whites". I genuinely believe you are completely making that up, or maybe exaggerating on the basis of one or two isolated incidents you saw.
(And again on your closing point, this half-true misreported news story proves absolutely nothing other than that once one white girl got assaulted in unclear circumstances).

Yes, I am living in an area where multi-culturalism is working well. Of course I don't deny that cultural intolerance exists - it obviously does in some areas of the country - but let's not pretend it's a one-way street! I do however absolutely deny that ethnic minorities get given special treatment by the judiciary (i.e. the suggestion that these girls didn't go to jail because of their race/religion) and as [MENTION=13947]happypig[/MENTION] says, to suggest otherwise does a great disservice to their intelligence and commitment.
So what did you really mean by "the boot is well and truly on the other foot"? That's an entirely different claim to saying that cultural intolerance exists!
And what does protecting your kids have to do with anything? I'm not asking you to protect my kids - just that if you're going to claim the UK has some great inbuilt racial bias that you have something to back it up!

What I just do not get with the lack of a custodial sentence for those girls, is that in the video 2 of them are clearly seen kicking the girl when she is on the floor, my understanding is that regardless of any provocation or mitigating factors, if you kick someone when they are on the floor and defenceless this is a serious assualt with the intention of GBH. Can anybody tell me if either my understanding is wrong or if right, a reason why they were not sent to prison?

They were charged with ABH, not serious assault or GBH. The exact reasons why that was chosen would have been a decision made by the CPS - but then if you watch the CCTV of the attack it seems (as others have posted on this thread) that it's not quite as the Daily Mail article would have you believe.
Having said that, yes I do still believe they should have gone to jail.

If they don't abide by the conditions of their sentence, then that's exactly what a suspended sentence will result in.
6 months, suspended for 12 months.
So any breach of the curfew, or unpaid work order, in the next 12 months, will see them inside.
That's not ' going free ' in the sense of being let off without a stain on your character, it's being told to adhere to keep the law, behave, and serve your punishment, or you can expect a trip to HMP. For 6 months.

That article is utter toss. All of the incidents he spoke about wouldn't have made the news 20 years ago, even with today's 24 hour media and people filming everything on their camera phones. This country is more tolerant than ever, the only thing we are less tolerant of is intolerance.

I know a lot of other people have said it, but seriously, what was the boyfriend doing?! Unbelievable. I couldn't believe what I was seeing watching that video, he just strolls around, presumably telling them off for being naughty. What the hell is that about?! There is no chance I would have allowed any girl with me to have been treated like that, I would have been the one taking the beating! The boyfriend is a prick.
