University taught me a load of stuff, though the undergraduate course I did only has a small bearing on what I do now. But I went to York, so was miles from home and it taught me a real sense of responsibility. I also learnt time management skills & stuff that can't really be taught. My Masters degree was bang on for what I do - Secure E-Commerce. That taught me loads that I still talk about to this day. Undergraduate courses are there to show employers that a person can stick out a course for 3/4 years, and sometimes they're relevant for work. A Postgraduate degree is where you learn more relevant stuff.
The reality is that an undergraduate degree gets you a good job. But, once you've got that first job it's all about experience. Otherwise people with degrees would become Sales Directors straight away - that never happens because you have proved nothing.
For what I do, my boss taught me more in his first 6 months than I have learnt at any time in my life
