In fairness to DK and the board, who must not be forgotten, he said that this was the season that we were going for promotion and irrespective of the reasons, we failed to reach the play offs so DW has been a failure in that respect and also we are losing money faster than ever, so perhaps the decision was forced upon DK.

Incidentally, the next time people at the club ask one of our players to show loyalty...maybe Lynch or Elphick, I hope that player politely reminds them of this and then tell them to f*** off.

Of course McGhee was treated worse. He was fired from the club.

Wilkins hasn't been.

"sorry dean, we are taking away the position of first team manager from you, and giving you the opportunity to take up the position of the man who puts out cones, shouts things in an unaudible voice, and gets to order the post game pizzas. you will also lose all the respect the players had for you as manager, as they can now call you wendy and have a jolly good laugh at your expense"

im sure he is DELIGHTED at the though of it. they might as well have fired him, it would have been a lot kinder...

Well, no one saw this one coming did they?!

Maybe Adams-Wilkins is the dream ticket, with each man's strengths covering the others weaknesses but there's so much about this that at first appearances seems incredibly dodgy. On the face of it Wilkins has been treated extremely poorly. Being given the job of releasing ten players then being given the boot the next day. That seems to be a pretty shoddy way of treating a man. Then there's the fact that he doesn't seem to have done too much wrong. He steadied and improved an ailing ship that was manned by a load of young kids fresh out of the youth team. Since when has finishing seventh in the league been a sackable offence for a club like Brighton?

As for Micky? I'm in two minds about his appointment. There's no doubt he's a legend for what he did in his two and a half years here. But, there are reservations. Namely his post albion career. He didn't really set the world alight did he? Infact, you could argue that he was distinctly mediocre at the higher level.
On top of that a large chunk of the team that he built here was based on tried and trusted players from a previous promotion campaign. He doesn't have that luxury this time. Unfortunately, for me, he has to to some extent prove himself again which is a terrible thought as he is a legend.

This move by D.K and the board is tremendously risky. We risk losing Wilkins, and if Adams fails his legacy will be tarred and we'd have lost a tremendous coach for no reason. A strange, strange decision by those on high. Only time will tell if it'll work...I really, really hope it does. Can't help thinking it's been performed poorly though.

...the treatment of Wilkins is an utter SHAMBOLIC disgrace.

A POPULAR former player who has done a CRACKING job as boss AND developed some of the best young players this club has EVER seen and he gets the boot like this?

SCREAMS of a PR exercise to try and get a few more bums on seats next season.

I for one will be sending a letter to the club tomorrow requesting my season ticket application be cancelled.

This is a bit worrying but yes Richie, for the third time in a month I totally agree with you

Nobody has a God given right to do the job they're in. First they have to earn it, and second they have to live with the possibly that someone better may one day take their place. With football being different to your average business, I'd like to think Wilkins can understand the thinking behind the decision and being Albion through and through, will work together with Adams to take the club forward. The automatic reaction of many seems to be that Wilkins will throw a paddy and quit. If he does, he does, but if he does, then it would smack of not realising what's best for the club as a whole. He knows he's highly valued, but as manager there are better men for the job. No one man is bigger than the club - and that includes managers.

Agreed, an utterly DISGRACEFUL decision. Dean Wilkins is a decent man who has always given his all to the club, both as player and manager.

Great overall post and that last paragraph above sums it up for me.

I thought this was a club with principles. Seems not.

The way the club got rid of McGhee should have alerted you but you were probably too busy celebrating his exit to let it bother you that time.

Shoddy treatment of two managers by our leader.

I agree with Richie, f***ing ridiculous. A young coach in his first full season gets you to 7th, is then allowed to cull the squad and then gets demoted (or the offer of it as it would seem).

I hope this is more a director of football/first team coach thing otherwise it's never got a hope in hell.

Dick has done this to appease the moany fans. Highly regressive rather than progressive in my opinion and a mistake.

Do you know what, I am actually quite f***ed off. I have always stuck up for Dick but he has made an awful decision.

Food for thought
Is it? I thought about it and thought "what a stupid thing to say". IF Wilkins hadn't been offered anything, it would seem a bit cold but nothing more than that. But he has. Whether he has a pair of balls big enough to accept the role he has been offered is another matter.

Oh the sheer bloody DRAMA of it - I can't remember a more unexpected development in years.

With respect, what a moronic comment to make.
Also with respect, agreed and certainly beneath him. Let's charitably ascribe it to the bottle. In the very nicest possible way, that's always likely to be a safe assumption, and there's nothing wrong with that.
