Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
McGhee chose to manage his side via his mouthpiece at the Argus.

At the end of the day would players and fans alike have turned on him the way they did if it hadnt been for week after week of Argus exclusives slagging of the latest out of favour player ?

I dont think so, Naylor came across like a wounded puppy thats just lost a bone when bum chum McGhee left. To be honest in fact the pair of them only have their selves to blame by trying to mircomanage a football club from the back page of a local paper.

The issue I had, and I will state it again, is the reasoning. If it was for the reasons DK said then why blame the supporters ( or at least use it as an excuse)

If that makes me an SCR apologist, then so be it

I thought there was a law that bans anyone questioning DK. I think Dave should be banned from NSC immediately.
I think anyone who wants to abuse DK because they can't tell the difference between a bad chairman and a good one should be given a radio show on the BBC to do so. :justasstupid:

Standing in the way of control
Gaffer - with all due respect, you are seeing things in a very black and white way.

In truth, ALL of these things led to the decision. McGhee had lost the support of the vast majority of fans (not one person rang in after the Bristol City game to support him), he was cracking up after that game (as anyone who heard his post-match interview, when he sounded like a nervous breakdown waiting to happen, will know) and yes, of course he had lost the dressing room - the performances were gutless and the players had no idea whether they would be in the squad from one week to the next, let alone what position they would play (total pros like Harty and Reid said as much.)

I take Knight's word over McGhee's press spinning and accept that he wanted to sack McGhee with the good grace that symbolises the club. Leaving some of the reasons why McGhee was sacked to our imagination hardly makes the board liars.

As someone who has criticised DK over this issue I feel I must put on record my view that he has been, is and I trust will continue to be a VERY GOOD CHAIRMAN.

However, I reserve the right to disagree with his actions and post those views on here whilst still holding the aforesaid view.

Why did DK have to give us and the media a reason the performances showed good enough reason.

He has made a rod for his own back by making it now appear that he was giving in to the Blooms and their original wish when they invested.

DW was not good or experienced enough at the start of the season but 6 weeks later he suddenly was and did MM lose the dressing room and the fans during that 6 week period, I think not it was lost long before then and was no worse then than at the end of last season.

The issue here goes back to the old days.

When this current regime came into beinmg, we were told at meetings at the Concorde etc etc that they were different...within reason understandably, the club would be transparent and the supporters ( the lifeblood of the club) would be kept informed and not lied to as previously.

Dave, we were also promised £2.0m of new "ringfenced" money to be spent on players! Were did that get spent? On the guys that Adams signed? Their fees were paid by the compo from Leicester when he went! :nono:

And my issue and I will state it again, is that you are seeming to say that he had one reason and has now changed his mind.

As people have already explained on this thread - he is not saying that. DK stated that the fans were a significant reasoning in his decision. Also as has been stated, MM accepted that he had lost the trust of the majority of fans. As they both agreed it, it was the most logical thing to be said in an AGREED departure statement.

If that agreement has been breached then the other party maybe now feels free to give another reason.

Also, nobody is saying you are an SCR apologist - although I do agree with Mr Banana that you are trying to see this as black and white.

I do actually know what happened to the 2million at the time and that is not really the issue here.

As I said I am not critisising DK and I am a firm supporter of him and have been since I first met him 10 years odd ago. Nothing that has happened since has changed my view of that. however i am not part of the establishment and reserve the right to question stuff I feel deserves questioning. Just because I happen to appear on the radio from time to time, doesnt put me in either pro or anti camp.

I was just surprised at this "revelation" and the timing. If DK is right and MM has been slagging him off somewhere then I suppose he has every right to have a go back, I am not really sure what it achieved really as Naylor and others were bound to have latched on to it.

AN is a journo whose whole career is based on producing articles about the Albion. here is a piece of throwaway language that he has made a story out of. As he would!!!

3 Gulls - we've had this before (and I'm sure we'll see it again). You are 100% WRONG that £2m was said to be ringfenced for players. This is a misquote based on a statement (prepared with the joint agreement of Bill Archer, The FA and CEDR) and given a full 4 months ahead of the takeover being completed.

So please, you have every right to an opinion but please try and avoid using erroneous quotes to back up your stance.

If you use the search function on here you will find the explanation - here it is:

DTG - with respect take a chill pill.

Nothing in life is Black and White and overall the Board in general and DK have done a bloody good job in keeping this club going as they have.

You will always get aspects of this and that should or shouldn't have been said or done - but I would MUCH prefer this regime to many other Boards & Chairmen that exist.

DK is not perfect but taken in context of the reality of life then I like most am quite happy although comedians like Erny can always find fault because of course they have a witless answer to everything.

Sorry but IMO not even worth bringing up the subject.

I'm not sure why lots of people on here criticise Naylor for having a good relationship with MM. For crying out loud, Naylor's JOB is to talk to the manager of Brighton (whoever he/she may be) and fill up the Argus with what he/she says.

I see Naylor forgot to include that bit;

McGhee lost team

Former manager, Mark McGhee
Albion chairman Dick Knight has claimed that former manager Mark McGhee "lost the team".

The Seagulls said McGhee had lost the support of the vast majority of fans when he was sacked six weeks ago.

Now Knight has given another more damning reason for ending McGhee's three-year reign.

The story changed when Knight answered questions from fans on Ian Hart's post-match phone-in on BBC Southern Counties Radio.

continued...
Knight, speaking after Albion's victory at Scunthorpe, said: "He (McGhee) readily admitted that he had lost the crowd.

"But what didn't come out, because I said I wouldn't go public on it, was that I felt he had lost the team, which obviously Mark didn't agree with.

"That never came out, because I honoured my word that I wouldn't say that. I just said that he had lost the crowd and I felt it was time to make a change.

"I had to move when I felt things had gone seriously wrong, because it's one thing losing the crowd but losing the team..."

The Argus contacted Knight to expand on his remarks. He initially agreed to provide us with a statement but changed his mind and is refusing to comment further on the matter.

McGhee is out of the country and unavailable for comment.
