What is Tony's plan? Does he offer RDZ new contract, will he give him a more of a say in recruitment? Has it gone better than either club or RDZ could HAVE wished for this season?
Greatest time ever to be a Brighton fan and still so much more to look forward to in the next month or so. This summer is going to be a roller-coaster for us fans and this is only due to the clubs progressive work. Glad I only have to teach 30 primary school children and not run a multi million pound football club!

Regarding the less important short term thing of me/us now, I’d still be incredibly proud and happy about this season, should we finish 8th and lose to Manure next week. Things don’t get better than what we’ve all witnessed this season, lap it up.

Recruitment - TB will stick to his tried and trusted spreadsheets and methods. RDZ won’t alter that, but I’m sure we’ll sensibly stretch the budget to optimise player resources for 2023/24.

But there’s no point taking silly risks. We could knee jerk sign the wrong players on big wages and long contracts, then RDZ walks anyway in summer 2024 to a ‘big club’. Imho it’s highly unlikely he’ll be with us in 4 or 5 years time.

Kind of with you but not quite. De Z has, I’m convinced, forced Tony to rethink even his own ambitions for the club. The ‘established top ten club’ we’ve heard about won’t wash any more, and certainly not with Roberto. The principles regarding sustainability won’t change, but I can see us significantly increasing what we pay players (and managers) to reflect where we’re hopefully heading - it doesn’t mean we won’t be ‘sustainable’, but selling one key player we bought for relative buttons for a massive profit each year (plus numerous academy products that don’t quite make it with us but still make us money every year), plus significantly increased revenue (particularly if we get into Europe) means this is viable within whatever parameters Tony has set for sustainability. This in turn makes is a little more likely certain top players stay with us….particularly if we start winning things. I don’t think we will sign star names on expensive contracts, but we may well significantly reward those that we develop and retain, to the point where leaving for a ‘big club’ becomes a much more difficult decision.

It's a good question and i don't know the answer. I look at the way we play yesterday and think De Zerbi is the best thing to happen to this football club aside from Bloom's bank account, and I'm not really sure how we can keep him. Just got to enjoy it

I honestly believe next season will surpass this one. A full De Zerbi season.

I don’t think Europa League money will alter things much. After it seemed dozens of ties, West Ham took just £20m income from it last season in reaching the semis [we earn almost £200m already, before player profits]. Plus we can’t base budgeting for player contracts/fees, on what may be a one off happy blip of European football. It’s a fans and club bonus.

Agreed. Worth having a look at what PB says in that NYT article: the next goal is to hold on to players because what we can offer is as good as they'll get elsewhere.
If we make CL (which isn't likely), pretty sure we'll keep Caicedo for another season. Same with reaching that milestone in 23/24 for Mitoma.

No, but factor in 50m+ of player sale profit every year on top of normal income and your playing (wages) budget looks pretty healthy

I think Roberto has changed some of the clubs thinking. He came in and, seeing what he inherited together with results/performances has told Bloom what he believes is achievable. The turning down 70 million for Moises was, largely down to Roberto. I reckon Tony and Paul have been blown away by what they are seeing like the rest of us.

Bottom line profit £24m

We need £38m of player profits per annum just to break even.
