Good to hear Chippie, Oatway, Rodger and McPhee are on the way back but what about Dean Blackwell? I think he was a class player but maybe the time has come for us to make a decision on him or him on his playing career.

The above four players will all have their part to play but do we need another centre back? Or more to the point - do we need one who is nop doubt pulling in big money which could be spent on another striker?

However I do not think he is that bigger earner. Both him and Rodger took 40% pay cuts to stay with us last season and the highest wage in Div 1 was around 4.5k pw, so even if he was pushing 4k pw, he is only going to be hovering around the 2k pw mark now.

If he comes back, yes we should keep him, there is more to his game than Butters and he will add a touch of quality and experience to a very young squad.

Come-on he's nearly thirty-five and has been injured for over a year. Time for him to face up to reality and call it a day.

Exactly, the poor guy gets wheeled out for the Play Off parade through town and then disappears again. He and the club have a responsibility to do thew right thing. We're always being told how tight the budget is. No matter how little he gets its too much for a 35-year-old crock.

He had a second operation in the summer to clear some of the crap out of the knee.

I guess they maybe making sure it is completly screwed to maximise the insurance pay out.

However if there is a chance of him coming back I think the club should back him as he is a far better defender than Butters.

34 and out for over a year with a serious injury. How many defenders can you think of that have come back at the same level at that age after a year out and remained injury free and walked back into team in such a competitive league?

Simon Morgan? Long shot but if Blackwell comes back and plays for a season like Morgan did, I'll be well chuffed.

I'd love to see him come back and agree with PIERS that he is a better defender than Butters is. It's very important taht we keep a good amount of experience around the youngsters in order to maximise their potential.

listen to yourselfs: as fans we're aways going on about player loyalty (or lack of it) but then want to get shot of someone as soon as they go on the long term injured list.

If we where to say goodbye, we'd have to payout the remained of the contract anyway wouldnt we?

Eh? Rodger only started full training about 2 weeks ago and he is getting a run out for the reserves tomorrow, hardly months is it? He will have kept a certain level of fitness through gym work etc.

You would hope they'd try to remain fit throughout wouldn't you?!

i think he has an important part to play this season, a midfield of currie rodger chippy and jarrett or jones looks good enough for this league

Why isn't he getting the same amount as stick as Kitson did then? Eh?

Because Kitson kept getting different injuries and talking about a bad back which wasn't ever really proved.

Blackwell got one injury which was a torn cruciate ligament. It has healed but as said above he has had to have a bit of further treatment. He has trained and the knee seems to hold out ok and then it starts swelling again.
He went back to see a specialist in August. I guess he's followiing medical advice.

He was injured whilst training for us. I know we're all concerned about the budget but we do owe him something as well.

All those who said 'get rid' I hope you never have an accident at work.
The club will decide when it is time for him to be paid off.

not kitsons fault really if club keeps rushing him back

WHAT? He didn't play for months and months and months. Then he was finally 'fit' and on the bench at Walsall and 'injured' himself again warming up before the match.
