I know it's just a couple of games so far this season, but there has been a huge difference watching Spurs and, while knowing every goalkeeper is one flap away from a howler, Robinson seems to inspire a general confidence among the defenders in front of him.
You can be the best occasional snap-shot-stopper, as James can be and Kasey Keller was for Tottenham over the past few years - but you just don't feel confident that an opposition attack will end in a save rather than a kamikaze rush-of-blood or embarrassing fumble.
It seems everyone is waiting for Kirkland as the anointed (number) one, but haven't seen enough of him to judge though wonder why not give Robinson a chance. People talk about lack of experience, but at least he's played in the Champions League, which Sven seems to obsess about in most other positions.
Also, pulling things back to Spurs (sorry), how many people - probably justifiably - fretted themselves stupid about Ledley King before the France game, and no longer bat an eyelid about him being a fairly reliable international centre-back? Would suggest that game's been the making of him - a talented, but fairly shy and sometimes-sloppy player looks so much more powerful and is now a worthy Spurs captain.
You never know until you actually give a player a go. And if they're in form, rather than woefully struggling, all the better, surely. . .?
But he won't drop James for Wednesday now. Would be too obvious.
Hopefully the fact he's the most "experienced" - ie. oldest - player available in that position will lessen in importance as the campaign develops. . .

The problem is Sven does not seem to rate Robinson and has earmarked Kirkland as his long term number 1. However Kirkland is either injured or when fit unable to oust Dudek. Some of the Cov lads I know seem to think he maybe back at Highfield Road on a long term loan.

Surely rather than playing James and if Sven will not play Robinson, it would be sensible to use Martyn as a short term solution?

I thought England played pretty well against Austria, but James cost us 2 points on his own.

I feel gutted for the back 4 who did not put a foot wrong, especially as Terry and King are playing for their places and, if Sven is to be believed, will be bombed out just as soon as Judas and The Drugs Cheat can play again.

I genuinely think it will go tits up vs. Poland if James plays, and I'm glad the media are going mad over it. Maybe the current backlash will persuade Sven that there is too much pressure on James for the Poland match and, rightfully, select Robinson instead.

...then I hope James lets in a couple and the FA dump Sven for sticking his neck out on a useless donkey - then we'll be rid of both.

Nah I'd rather we win, and James keeps a clean sheet !!

Ta very much
