That should be his final appearance for England in my opinion.

Luckily your opionion doesn't matter then.

Still has a role to play as last night showed, against better opposition he wil get closed down but last night as perfect for him and can still do a job coming on as sub on the right hand side.

Limited? LIMITED?! Are you serious?

I am 22 years old and David Beckham is, without doubt, the greatest English player I have seen play for our country. The model professional, a true gentleman, and a world-class player. If we'd have had 11 Beckham's in the last decade we'd have won major tournaments, of that I am sure.

Snoop Dogg reckons he's the greatest of all time. And that's Snoop Dogg.

in terms of actual performances for england then he's better than all of those players. Gerrard and Lampard have never reproduced their club form for england. I've seen Beckham carry the team on a number of occasions.

thats fair comment, but i dont remember him "carrying the team" against strong opposition, its been his determiniation and drive thats worked for us against lesser teams. He has also cost us games, or rather the managers inability to try somthing not revolving around him has. I think we are starting to see more of the club performance of the others under Capello, they know they have to fight for the places now.

as for earlier comment about playing 11 Beckhams, you'd lose, proably quite badly. it would be like watching tennis, balls flinging back and forth across the midfield. would probably score a few too, but defensivly would be stuffed. contrast to say Gerrard where he literally can has played in every outfield position. Beckham in the centre of midfield is a luxury with his poor defensive abilities (he tracks and press ok, but thats not really enough) and on the wing his long passing is too predicatble. just like Lampard/Gerrard, some of his club performance doesnt come through, he does have a short passing game too it apparently gets turned off in an England game.

i'd still have him in the squad for SA though, for his attitude and a certain fear factor coming off the bench.

I think there's generally a split in opinion with prople who actually follow england and those who don't. Talk to anyone at an England away game and you won't hear a bad word about Beckham, because they've seen him sweat blood for england for the last 11 years.

Yes I agree. I think true England fans can see the guy giving everything to the cause when so many times his teammates have treated games with contempt. I have lost track of how many "friendlies" he has been the only player who has shown any desire for the game, and as such any respect for the paying punter.

Beckham is a shoo-in for the World Cup. How much of a delivery service or an alternative point of attack would be missing if he wasn't there? He's still got plenty to offer.

Besides, if David Pleat says he shouldn't go to the World Cup, that tells you all you need to know.

Can't argue with any of that, I thought Beckham was excellent last night and yes, he should go to the World Cup, his experience alone makes him worth it.

All this talk about he had one pass, it was only because Andorra played a flat five which left Cole and Johnson free on the wing but left the middle conjested. Sure Capello put him in the middle for the his range of passing to get it out wide or even behind them. Granted propably shouldn't start come SA but as a back up with that amount of experience and respect he gets from other players he has to go

Yeah he made mincemeat of that accounts clerk in the midfield.
And what about when he sidestepped that dentist near the halfway line ?

Pure class. Unbelievable performance.

Please someone, give me an example of David Beckham taking apart a TOP CLASS team with his passing/all round play.

I can think of Gerrard doing it, Lampard doing it and Rooney doing it.

Beckham's crosses from deep are fantastic against rubbish teams, but I can't think of a time it's ever fooled a GOOD defence. Can you?

Don't get me wrong, a good if limited player. He had one great moment (vs. Greece, a team we would destroy now). One great moment on it's own does not a world-class player make.

But he's easily our most handsome player.

Model Professional - Yes.
True gentleman - Yes.
World Class - Probably not. Hasn't done enough "world class" things in "world class" games to ensure that.

Beckham's performance has to be viewed in the context of the opposition, and the fact Glen Johnson created 4 goals to Beckham's NIL puts it firmly into context. Beckham was OK, but you DON'T expect him to score anymore like 6 or 7 years ago.

The fact that the paucity of strikers means Crouch and Heskey get game time necessitates Beckham's inclusion in the squad because of his crossing ability alone.

I was staggered to hear Gabrield Clark and David Pleat both agree it was unlikely Beckham would be prominent in Capello's World Cup plans because if not then why play him at all?

At this stage the die has been cast and now we're virtually guaranteed a spot Capello will be thinking about nailing down the 7 or 8 squad players he needs. I consider one place is Beckham's to lose.

tonight was superb....ok, crap opposition but was everywhere, and his passing at pace....fantastic !
The man is ..1 Top person
2 34...going on 28.ish
3 Amazing role model
4 Must be part of the World Cup squad
5 Should have been Man of The Match

completely dfifferent from my views and that of my mat6es in the pub last night:

Corners were shit
Long range passing was great to watch but he's doing that more often now to save his legs to last 90mins.
Wrong position obviously but did ok, would NEVER play him there against a half decent side.
Average performance in all.
Would take him to the WC but he would be a Sub.
