Anyone know when Beckham was last played in centre midfield?

I'll tell you.

Northern Ireland 2 - 1 England.

Cricks was DEAD last night, seemed very odd for an England game ???

So was the Albion.
It was on ITV though. Had it been on Sky/Setanta (chortle) I'm sure the replicas would have been out in force.

Little Cricks quiet also... ... ...Irish Bar in Gumbet was busy last Sat though, except on the roof bar which was empty bar me, prob cos too hot and the Efes warmed up too quickly. Had the misfortune to chat to a no mark scum fan, who couldn't work out who I supported when I said your most hated team.... He said Millwall, Chelsea, West Ham, Charlton and even Orient before getting it right, and he turned out to be a right boring twat.

completely dfifferent from my views and that of my mat6es in the pub last night:

Corners were shit
Long range passing was great to watch but he's doing that more often now to save his legs to last 90mins.
Wrong position obviously but did ok, would NEVER play him there against a half decent side.
Average performance in all.
Would take him to the WC but he would be a Sub.

Agree about the corners, but all this bollocks about saving his legs etc.....i think if you asked Maldini , Ancelloti and the rest of the Milan side , they have said he is about the fittest guy there ( or was).....why do we think just because a footballer gets to 34, he cant last 90 mins....its a fallacy . Diets, fitness levels etc etc, are prolonging footballers careers.
Agree he will be a sub at World Cup, and that he probably wouldnt have started last night if wed been playing Croatia.....but Lennon and Walcott need to get their arses into gear and quick !

Its a fact that Beckham no longer has the energy levels he used to have though. He's a liablity on the wing, he can't get up and down the flanks any more, so he can't get back to support the fullback, and he doesn't get sufficiently forward to deliver the ball from dangerous areas, so we just get the 60 yard diagonal loopers from near the halfway line. And central midfield is just not his forté - we'd get found out BIG time against anyone decent if he was deployed there next year.

20 minute cameos, yes. Set pieces yes. ut he shouldn't be anywhere near starting a game for England when it matters.

Of course he's the fittest player at AC Milan.

The average age of a Milan player is 53.

Walcott is more than good enough to keep his place. Gerrard on the other side, with competition from Joe Cole and Ashley Young. Plenty of wing options.

Limited? LIMITED?! Are you serious?

I am 22 years old and David Beckham is, without doubt, the greatest English player I have seen play for our country. The model professional, a true gentleman, and a world-class player. If we'd have had 11 Beckham's in the last decade we'd have won major tournaments, of that I am sure.

Are you serious, Beckham is an above average footballer that just looks handsome and great endorses a million and one things, has a celebrity wife that is a tabloids dream. Forget all the bs as a footballer he is not fit to lace Rooney or Gerrards boots.

He is limited, he is for a winger very very slow, he never beats his man for speed a la Walcott. He also cannot dribble past players a la Rooney, Messi or Ronaldo (and never has). He never ever beats his full back he whips in any crosses early even I can see this and so does Capello.

Talking about last night in particular his crossing from corners was absolutely abysmal, every time he hit the first man at the near post. Sure he can do Hollywood passes 50 metres against a side like Andorra that might or might not reach his team mate but then again I reckon I could kick a ball 50 metres that might or might not reach my intended target.

I would have him in the squad though, no way should he be in our starting XI for the first World Cup game, if he is we are going to do nothing.

I thought he was alright last night, but no more. To be honest, having been at the game, I find it amazing that Glen Johnson got man of the match. I accept his crosses set up four goals, but much as that's hard to dismiss, I can't ever recall a defence so weak as Andorra's: even your average Albion player would have had a field day, so easily were they beaten.

Beckham floated a few nice passes, ran around a lot as always, and he's been a great player in his time, but seeing his corners was like deja vu for us Withdean goers- virtually every one either hit the first defender or sailed over everyone's heads. I don't really object to him going to South Africa, but not as a first choice player.

Doesn't really deserve too much stick though- if any players wasted last night's opportunity, it was Walcott and Crouch.

Always love reading your comments. Beckham will go to SA , and unless Walcott or Lennon start producing consistent performances , then we may find that David will be playing a much biggerpart in the proceedings than many people think !

Totally agree with you.....im a bit concerned about Walcott and Lennon though !

Walcott is the MOST overrated thing i've ever seen.

One good performance does not make a player.

"head down, runs, gives ball away"
"head down, runs, gives ball away"

etc etc.

Quite possibly, Capello clearly still thinks he's got enough about him, and I respect Capello far more than any other recent England manager so fair enough. Mainly because he doesn't appear to stand for any shit from the players, he gets them jumping through hoops as he wishes, and there's no more of this arrogance that seemed to linger previously, in the sense that the players earned so much they could do what they like. It's quality that they have to call him "Mr Capello", like naughty schoolboys.

You're right about Walcott and Lennon- Walcott has been brilliant in some games and anonymous in others. A game like last night's was absolutely set up for him, but he just didn't take the opportunity.

I thought he played very well last night, disappointed he didn't score, he deserved to get a goal.I thought he played like a true center midfielder, spreading the ball out wide, nice one touch passes and as usual some inch-perfect long balls and crosses, hopefully he still has a few years left in him:clap::clap::clap:

Doesn't really deserve too much stick though.

I think the only reason he gets "stick" from some is to try and bring some balance, as he is positively idolised by others completely sucked in by "Becksmania", and it can grate after a while.

I've got a lot of respect for David Beckham, but I just want to get some realism here. Good player. Nothing special. Not as good as Paul Scholes.

His passing is just Incredible. I would even say he's a better passer than Huddlestone.
