More cracking racing at Paris-Nice and Tirreno Adriatico again today.

Real shame for G to crash at PN, but Bentancur has it all tied up anyway.

Good to see Kwiatkowski hang on against the big gun climbers in TA. Nice form on show from Quintana and Bert too. Bodes well for a great season of racing. Mental pace most of the way up that final climb by Kreuziger today

Some very steep sections in the finale of TA today. No doubt Bert, Quintana & Moreno will be looking to claw back time on Kwia, but @ 33/1 I couldn't resist 50p e/w on Pozzovivo.

Still had a fantastic weekend in the velodrome, reliving the olympics and it has a great looking road track around it now, all opens to the public on the 31 March, go get your photos with the olympic rings, excellent cafe and kids play areas as well

Amazing scenes by the looks of it at TA today.

Unfortunately I elected not to stay up for the highlights at 11.30pm as I'm too knackered and so watched an 8min youtube video of closing kms instead. I was expecting to see all the GC there together on the Muro and the fireworks to go off. Imagine my shock to find out the firework party already happened back on Lanciano, with Bert hosting and Kwia being the major casualty Gutted I missed all the action All I saw was the climb up the wall. Nasty finish, and not a pretty site to see riders having to zig zag up the bloody thing just to make it up!

Fair play to Contador to race like that today. Superb racing and it's not often we get to see such attacks from that far out these days. I'm not a Contador fan but I hope this is a sign of things to come from him this season. It will make it a great one if it is. Really surprised Kwia blew up like that today though. I thought he had this TA nailed on to be honest.

Jnr rather let himself down today.

I hadn't taken into consideration his ability to be very cocksure once he's done something well, once.
He rode our first sportive really well and was very attentive, we've not been out since.
As a result today when he needed to concentrate he rode well, but sadly when he deemed it all to 'easy' he was all over the place, literally.

He ended up getting a bit of a dressing down, which should hopefully focus his mind, because he wasn't safe today.


But as said when it did get difficult he was fine.
It was all around Goodwood, so it was considerably lumpier than what he's used to.
He did really well on the climb up from then northern side, and had a good stab at the traditional climb from Chi to the racecourse.

My heart sank when I saw the route to the finish had us down a 15% drop.
I wanted to walk it, but there was nowhere to walk, so we had to ride.
Going down that at around 10mph is a feat in itself, although we did break 20mph on a nicer descent earlier.

I looked at the sky and crossed myself as I won!!!
Although I wish I'd copied Vichot and done a tribute to Mick Shannon

Sounds like a great day out. Life's all a learning experience after all. Weather could not have been better either.

All very well you wishing you'd been French national champion for the day, but if Jnr's been paying attention and watching AVV he might have got knocked out by a swing of your victorious arm as he wheelsucked you all the way to that finish line.

It was an odd day.
We went out in the lead group, with an awful lot of bike porn and serious faces.
Naturally the 'nago lightened the mood.

But when we got back, about 11ish, there was still a very eclectic mix riders starting.
Inc a couple of bikes that must have had the baskets removed from the front, for the occasion.
As well as 4 people from Marble Arch who if you'd mixed their bikes and kit around you would have made a professional roadie, a professional beach bum, and 2 others in between.
They were all very proper and very 'wrong' (not the bike snob word I'm after but it'll do) at the same time.

But anyway, back to MSR. I really can't see Ulissi doing anything here. I think the likes of Degnekolb and even a slimmed down Greipel are the most likely candidates to steal Sagan's thunder. My 50p will probably go on whatever I consider best value, which means I'll be backing an outsider as per usual I expect.

I can;t argue with your reasoning over Sagan and the knock on for Ulissi, but i just get the feeling that Ulissi is great a semi-classics (especially Italian ones) but is still a bit out of his depth when it comes to monuments (cue stats to prove me wrong as this is just gut feeling).

How accurate do you think your track pump is?

I've just discovered that mine is giving a reading a whole 10psi LOWER than is actually in the tyre! Discovered this through the use of a new pressure gauge for the car tyres and a double check with a petrol station machine (I've recently taken to using the track pump to top up my car tyres).

This means I've been running my bike tyres at 130 psi rather than the 120 I thought I was putting in. That's fine as the tyres state min 120 and I've been comfy on what turns out to be 130, but the kid's bikes have been 10psi beyond their maximum recommended pressures all this while. That's a tad worrying.

Fascinating story I know, but just curious as to how accurate everyone thinks their track pump is.

I was just worried that in exceeding the max recommended on the kids bikes by 10psi without realising it that their tyres have been susceptible to possibly blowing out. About 5psi out either way I would have perhaps expected but 10 came as a surprise. I run theirs on max because littlest has a one gear knobbly tyre job and I figure the less rolling resistance she gets the better. Likewise for the the others really, and to prevent any possibility of pinch flats. Mine I'm not so bothered about as I'm well within the recommended max and the pressure I've been running on has suited me on every count, so far (don't want to jinx it).

Good to hear the max levels given air (pun intended ) on the side of caution then. Glad I know where I am now though in terms of the inaccurate gauge, even if it does make little difference ultimately.




P.S You've been a bit quite on the race front chat. Can we have a MSR prediction from you? I'm going to stick my neck out and say Greipel, although Degenkolb should be even more likely. Although I hope it's Cav again.
