I, normally, leave my seat in the North Stand 2 or 3 minutes before the end of the game and watch the remainder of the game from the walkway above it. If I don't it means it takes loads longer to get out and I miss my train. We don't all live in Brighton you know and some have difficult journeys. It doesn't matter where you watch from - I never actually LEAVE before the final whistle

High up on the South Downs.
I sat in the North Stand yesterday, for only the second time in 8 years, as I've got a South Stand season ticket on the half-way line. Given the foul weather, I was rather fortunate not to be sitting in my normal seat.

My random thoughts regarding the crowd yesterday are as follows:

I never realised that both wings of the South Stand were usually so sparsely populated. I had always thought that the singing section was always full. However, full credit to the singing section, who sung their hearts out throughout the game, whilst getting soaked.

Indeed, full credit to the whole crowd for creating what, from the North Stand, was a superb and noisy atmosphere. Incidentally, of all the South Stand blocks, block E was the most pumped up block yesterday.

I was surpised that, given the state of the game, so many people left their seats early, although admitedly most watched from the running track.

The family stand sounded quite quiet yesterday. Perhaps it sounds better from the South Stand.

From the players' reaction at the end, I think that they appreciated that the crowd played a part yesterday, which is rarely the case at Withdean

Whilst appreciating the roof yesterday, I much prefer the view from high up in the South Stand.

And lastly, when we want to, we can make quite a racket at Withdean.

This is disgraceful. How dare you destroy the lack of atmosphere excuse for the non-attending fans!:jester:

The South can actually sound quite loud, unless you are sitting in it. That's probably because you cannot hear the other fans in adjoining blocks, or beyond, but you can sometimes hear their echo in the north.

Sitting in block E yesterday was a very enjoyable experience indeed :)

It was nice to be able to start off some of the chants knowing full well everyone was going to join in after me.

I only wish it was like that every week!

 A most enjoyable day out in the South Stand yesterday. Last time it rained when I was at Withdean was probably the Carlisle game last season (i'm fairly sure it was Carlisle) when it absolutely belted it down.
Super super mark.....

The acoustics in the south stand are shit.

This is a case for putting up microphones and speakers in order to spread the sound around and encourage others to sing!

We might not be able to have a roof over the south stand but piping the sound around should surely be possible?!

That sounds a good idea and probably wouldn't cost hardly anything as the speakers are already in place and would create abetter atmosphere.

Sitting in the North Stand the 2 most distinct sounds you can hear is a Scots man shouting 'get into em' and a chap in the next block continually shouting 'foul throw'.

Highly unlikely - there's only a small window where music is allowed to be played before the game.

.. the chances of anything like that being allowed to happen are less than zero.

Is that what you call the row that is transmitted after 2.45 each game, music. Given the choice I know which I would prefer that row or hearing people shouting and singing. I would be quite happy if the only tune they played was GOSBTS as the players came out

Now that would really upset John Catt.

For the later games of the season loud-hailers could be issued as part of the Brighton Festival. The resulting din would be a work of art put together as a sound installation like they have in the turbine room at Tate Modern.

no reason why you couldnt have a mega phone in a couple of blocks like they do abroad, give mega phone to key people that are non stop vocal and it would surely work.
Saying that , everyone moans about atmosphere at withdean but compared to alot of grounds it is certainly no worse

Have to hand it to H block, not only were there NO wilkins out chants, they even managed to sing "we are going up", and "we're going to Wemberlee"

its amazing what happens when the crowd get behind the team and support them!!!

despite the rain, it was a great withdean experience

No roof and trees/grass all round will absorb the sound. Stick us in a real stadium - at say, Falmer - with a roof - and the atmos will come straight back.

Interesting to hear the crowd on the Norwich game highlights. Despite being 28,000 in the Goldstone, at time you could still hear the frustrated shouts from the crowd. Was it ever thus!

I wish the stewards AND police would usher those who choose to watch the last few minutes from the runnings track out of the ground immediatly then maybe people wouldn't leave their seats and ensure everyone else, who remain in their seats until full time, can see the rest of the game and not queues of people too inconsiderate to wait until the final whistle before leaving. It's really f***ing annoying and rude.
