One imagines that, in normal circumstances, Crawley would have sat tight and waited for the compensation from the club Barker joined.

However, this being Pompey, they presumably viewed their chances of getting so much as a brass farthing out of them as next to zero, so binned him off anyway and avoid paying him anything while he arses about deciding.

I wonder when 'the red side of sussex' will comment on this.

I'd like to hear a Crawley fan's view of this, as for me it's really bizarre.

If he was going to apply for the Pompey job, then wait for the compensation.

If they sacked him because of results, then they need to have a long hard look at themselves.

Rumours now that Coppell has resigned as Barker was sacked 'over his head'.
What's going on up there? Money run out?

From Crawley Observer web site today:

Reds chief executive Michael Dunford has rubbished claims that Steve Coppell has left his role as director of football at the club.

Chief Scout Martin Hinshlewood and Gary Alexander put in temporary charge. Could this open the way for Dunk and Dickenson to go out on loan. Surprised Kuipers wasnt considered for the job but not sure if he has the required badges or even wants to be a manager.
