Because v Southampton we only have Greer and El Abd available (vincelot and dunk suspended; painter, calderon and elphick injured, reyes back at west brom), and El Abd will probably be playing fullback. So, we either play Cook who did well v man city and liverpool for the first team and has been playing well for bournemouh, or Hall who hasn't made any first team appearances? That's why people are intent on talking about Cook.

Cook's loan doesn't end until midnight on January 2nd anyway, so he's never been an option. We have players at the club who are waiting for the chance, we have Hall on the bench waiting for an opportunity and we have people like Jamie Strong who can come in and play at right back, allowing El-Abd to get back into the centre. It's not ideal, but we have other players at the club, we have a development squad so let's start getting the benefit out of it.

Oh yes he was. Top quality keeper and has been for years. Easily would be one of the ebst in the Championship. Just a shame his wife didn't want to move down south.

Top quality keeper? Has been for years??

Was he though ?

Looked at fault for the West Ham goal in position albeit Bridcutt made the initial error.

I don't think he bought anything better than we had already

Yes he was out of position, but I'd say he was fairly ring rusty and that doesn't bode well when Kevin Nolan is jogging at you totally unchallenged. Other than that he demonstrated a consistent ability to catch the ball, which in my book puts him in a better category than Casper

We have a recall option that we can activate now..

Rose-tinted glasses. He was no better than Ankergren, he is far too old to be considered anything other than a temporary measure. We need a new goalkeeper in january, but we need one who is going to be in the team for years to come, not Harper whose best days are past him. He peaked in 1997, playing in the FA Cup Final.
