For want of a better way of putting it, all this stuff isn't exactly cricket, is it?

Another almost accidental wicket for Yorkshire there.

303-5

It's funny how they're always allowed to get away with doing this kind of thing on the last day.

Although it does happen at all levels of the game. I think my team in Hassocks once won the title against the team in second place, by declaring on about 120/5 to deny the opposition the bowling bonus points they needed.

Not in the spirit of the game, this is almost akin to Spurs and Southampton playing out that draw to push us out. Somerset supporters must be thrilled.

Not really... because both of these teams WANT TO WIN.

Quite. Those claiming it's 'not in the spirit of the game', don't fully appreciate the game. They are setting up a contest. Its ABSOLUTELY in the spirit of the game.

Somerset supporters will be praying for a dull draw, or better still torrential rain. THAT is far less 'in the spirit'.

How can it not be in the spirit of the game when this sort of thing has always gone on and at all levels? It's not as if they are playing out a draw so both win (the football analogy) they are just making sure that there is likely to be a winner and a loser.

It is a fine judgment both ways... Yorkshire need a target they can chase, and Middlesex need a target Yorkshire WILL chase... all the way.

Middx 351-5, leading by 231 with 41 overs remaing (-2 for the innings change).

RR 5.92 for Yorks to win... not enough yet.

I don't agree, playing your hardest to score runs, take wickets is the honest way to settle the contest. It could be argued that by doing this they are taking Somerset out of the equation.

Thus taking Somerset out of the reckoning.

Franklin has just given his wicket away - not sure I agree with that...hmm.

A wicket for Lyth... Franklin deliberately lobbed it back for a c&b.

Middlesex 359-6 declared... 124 from the last 10 overs.

240 from 40 overs to win for Yorkshire.

Generous.
