Lots of different rumours floating around on HNA at the moment, the main one being that Cops is fed up of the lack of backing from the chairman and the board as far as strengthening the squad is concerned.
Never a dull moment being a Royal right now i tells ya! [Complain about this post]

Hi TS - how are you? On the mend I hope!
I heard that rumour too on Royalmail, but don't give it much credence. I do wonder if Coppell just did his usual ramblings on SAturday and brain did not engage when he was talking ??

It is possible that some players have had their noses put out of joint but I find it hard to believe that it then comes through on the pitch - surely they should be out there to prove a point?

With my optimistic hat on I am just going to put this down to our usual seasonal blip - and its gonna end tomorrow night :) [Complain about this post]

Thanx Pat, i'm getting better every day, just need to have a few more blood tests. I'm starting to feel like a human pin cushion!
Have my fingers crossed for tomorrow night. With all the doom and gloom at present, it would be just like us to pull off a win! [Complain about this post]

You are strange ones. You've been close but not quite for so many years, and also your Chairman is so super-rich, I've never really understood why you've never finished the job. Still, I'd rather your "dull moments" than our Gillingham ones at the moment! [Complain about this post]

re: Coppell may walk. peverell - 40th post - 21 Feb 2005 11:51
Tell him to turn left on the M4, on to the M5 at Bristol and carry on until he gets to Plymouth. He can have all the money he wants to get us where you are.
Look after him there will be plenty of takers if he leaves.

Not too many of his quality around. [Complain about this post]

you dont want him! he'll sign you a load of ageing crocks on very high wages (rodger, blackwell, roberts), take you down and then sod off the second hes offered more money. hes doing the same at reading (keown, ferdinand)... [Complain about this post]

i do think the players have to take some of the responsiblity - these players are not doing themselves any favours, by under performing. i am sure they will be asking for a move, if we don't make the play-offs. [Complain about this post]

He said on the radio after the Coventry game there were "hidden agendas" but didn't go on to explain what he meant. He is being made to look incompetent but I can't agree it is entirely his fault why things have gone wrong - he should stay and flight!!

The only place that Coppell has actually stayed and fought was at Palace in his last stint there, when he did an amazing job with a complete **** as a Chairman and then got the heave ho when the new one arrived.

I can understand why he left us for the Reading job, but to walk from the Reading job where he has had what I would consider reasonable financial backing would be the actions of a quitter. He's done it twice before so who knows.

Could the "hidden agendas" be a plot to try and make the Madjeski stadium less intimidating??

I'm just delighted he chose to walk out on us, although I was well pissed off at the time.

Mark McGhee's blue and white army :clap2: :clap2:

Every time I see him on the telly with his bloody Reading hat on makes my blood boil. I liked him quite a bit when he was with us but I realise now that we came out of the whole thing with the best manager anyway, I just find it funny it's all going pear shaped for Reading. They don't deserve that ground and hopefully their little premiershite dream is fading away.

I liked SC as a manager as well but am happy with MM

The only thing I've got against managers in the vein of SC and Peter Taylor is that they are dour people and you can't really imagine them firing up and motivating a dressing room full of players looking for inspiration. Although being a good manager is not all about strength of personality to me it always seems to defy logic when such managers (Martin O'Neill another) carve out successful careers.

SC was awful on the telly when interviewed.

No passion at all, I heard that his pre-match talks would start off slow and slowly wind up to a crescendo so to speak.

More inspiring would be a sales talk by David Brent

I didn't like Copout when he was here, and cannot be arsed if he stays or leaves Reading.

There is a lot of local feeling that Madejski does not really want success at the highest level.

Once again Reading were in the playoffs at Christmas and what they needed was investment in some decent young players to consolidate their position and push for promotion.

However Madejski kept his hand in his pocket once again leaving a lot of Reading fans believing he is not that committed.

I can't see that showing passion on the telly is really a priority. McGhee doesn't exactly breath fire either. But the fact is that like Coppell, he's done it all as a player and has a decent track record as a manager and blatently has the respect of the players. This is why Coppell got the best out of a player like Leon Knight, and McGhee managed to turn him round when he threatened to go off the rails.

Rather either them than Barry Fry.

Surely the biggest unexplained mystery in the western world, how the Fug has Fry managed to hold onto that job for so long? I know he has some kind of controlling interest in the club but bejesus! The only bigger mystery is what potential he saw in Peterborough Utd in the first place!!!

It's the curse of the Albion, almost no one leaves this club and goes onto greater things (the biggest exception being physio Mark Leather who went to Anfield)

Coppell seems to always do best when his team are underdogs. He obviously did well with Palace, brilliantly with Brentford and made a good fist of it with us despite our start. What I don't think he can mentally cope with is managing a team with high expectations. He showed that at City and now looks like crumbling at reading.

That's my theory anyway

Spot on actually.

The minute he has the resources and backing can't produce the goods.

And yet he left us because he wanted to try his hand competing at the highest level. At least I'm sure that's one of the reasons I seem to recall him giving.
