Shut your eyes, imagine Calde in a SUIT on the touchline, and now tell me you wouldn't appoint him.

LIAR.

Out of interest why do people love Calderon so much. As a player I've always thought he was alright, you know he does a job but he's nothing special. And I'm amazed no one else remembers him bombing us out to join Saints only to fail his medical and come crawling back.

Ha ha yeah I figured it probably would draw that sort of insult. I do realise I'm on my own on this one but I'm sure everyone has a player that everyone else loves and you just don't get.

Look at him. How can he not be loved?

Herts
80/1 with Skybet - behind such luminaries as Keegan and Laurent Blanc.

I'd love to see Calde as our manager one day; just not yet.

I'm not sure I would be able to cope if Calders was our manager. Way too exciting.

It's not history rewritten. We offered him a contract when he was inured. A career threatening injury they were'nt sure he would recover from, instead of signing he went and spoke to Southampton. Poyet at the time said "he won't be signing he won't be here next year". He went to saints but they didn't want to gamble on him because of his injury. He came back to us and signed a new contract that wasn't as good as the first one we offered him.

I thought that was common knowledge.

In no particular order:

He does a lot of work with Charities such as Chestnut Tree House, and competes in triathlons.

He puts a lot of effort in despite being seen, by many, as inferior to the likes of Bruno.

He's been involved with the squad on the rise from League 1 through to its establishment in the Championship.

As Orlandi alluded to, he helps/helped the Spanish contingent settle in the city - whether that be with language/cultural issues, or places to go/live.

He seems genuinely enthusiastic about Brighton and Hove Albion, with an air of loyalty when he speak about the club and the team.

Has a lot of time for fans, and isn't afraid to get involved in motivating the team from the touchline.

Hope this helps

To be fair that is exacly what I was looking for. I didn't know he did a lot of charity work which is good and he has gone up in my estimation.

Like I say I appreciate most people have a different opinion than mine on Calderon. I'm sure everyone has a player they don't rate but everyone else seems to.

My opinion has always been clouded by what some people seem to have forgotten about him, but hearing some of those good things he's done will make me reconsider.

Rather surprised it is you that has posted this! His is the antithesis to the type of footballer behaviour that you were (rightly) bemoaning the other week. He is EXACTLY the type of person you want around a football club.

He wanted to find out what Southampton were offering as is the custom in Spain. He did not get as close as having a medical.

I have no idea if Calde would make a good manager or a coach or not. I know he's well loved within the club but then so was OGH or FDM.

Well that's kind of why I was asking. My opinion has been clouded for a while, because of that incident. I was geniunely asking why people like him so much as maybe I need to reconsider it, hence the good post by Greg Bobkin above. By all accounts he sounds like a decent guy with his charity work.
