I got me one of those DELONGHI filter coffee machines with permanent filter thingy (which is a blessing is disguise. No need for continuous filter papers).

None of the TASSIMO stuff. I still love my Sunday morning with the coffee on the go hearing drip by drip of delicious freshly-ground beans become liquid gold.

Anyone have any recomendations for beans to buy to grind myself? I've been picking up the Asda Extra specials and they are all nice but there has to be some gems out there that I'm missing out on.

I'm a fan of Black & Beyond beans myself. Very nice coffee.

Where else, but the Algerian Coffee Store in Old Compton Street, Soho. Since 1887, a temple of perfection for coffee nuts. Of their dozens of different beans, the Velluto Nero is unbelievably good. Been buying it for years: strong, nutty, chocolatey… Pure coffee porn.

Check out Hasbean, great service, freshly roasted beans and quick despatch. Love them, they do some great blends themselves too

I can't stand coffee, but I'm going to make a polite appeal.

Can those of you who do consume coffee please consider those who you speak to and/or breathe over afterwards. Coffee stinks. Chew some gum please.

This.

I have spent a fair bit of time in Paris over the last few years and the coffee experience there is interesting.

Hotel breakfast coffee, is always some bitter vile stuff, how anyone can drink it is beyond me. This is the only place I go looking for a milky Starbucks for some comfort. The Parisiens, do like a lunch and a coffee, the only thing I found was that they can knock back an expresso and leave, whilst I am still trying to cool down a cafe au lait. SO I went with the flow and really started enjoying a good expresso, I just never think to order one here.

To answer Mr Riskit, I really rate Sainsburys Tanzanian Moshi Peaberry beans.

Chain - Costa, with a token mention to McDonalds, which does pretty good coffee - surprising given that its food is rank.
Instant - Nescafé Gold Blend.

I'm also working my way through about 1,000 Nespresso capsules of various flavours/strengths. Most of them are pretty decent.

Small batch is definitely the best of the local coffee places. Also agree that McDonalds coffee is pretty good.
