Macca seems to have given up. He was even worse today. The one thing he has is running and that has deserted him recently, along with any semblance of pace.

Time after time he was strolling back from an offside position as our midfield waited to pass forward.

Sorry Macca. Always wanted it to work out but it hasn't.
Just not true - never looked like getting a goal, but pre
-injury never looked like he would stop running either

He's like that golden retriever you loved as a puppy who's now grown old, useless, shits everywhere and needs to be put down.

Beggars belief that this time last year we had Ulloa and Barnes up front. Proper strikers in the normal sense of the word. Barnes would have had two goals minimum today, just by being in the instinctively correct position for a striker. You can't teach that. Well certainly not to CMS. That pitifully hopeful through ball to him can be played all day long but a Championship-level defender is never going to make the blunder that would allow CMS to pounce in League One. Lovely bloke blah blah but PLEASE get rid. Its painful to watch.
And CMS was giving a master class to the waste of a shirt called Baldrick.

Baldrick has to go, and go now.

1. How long will it take you to learn his name isn't Baldrick?
2. You are talking utter bollocks. How can you judge a striker on his ability to play on the wing? He needs to play centrally.

It's true, he's simply not good enough at this level. How he got to play at International level, God only knows!

When the biggest round of applause you get as a striker is when you get up and get back on the pitch.... I think that tells you all you need to know.

To be fair though, that was completely understandable. CMS initially looked to have gone down with a very serious injury and I think everybody was just happy that the bloke wasn't leaving on a stretcher.

I think he still tries his heart out, but is such a sucker to high backlines catching him out for offside. Plus he has lost any advantage he ever had of pace, which was really only ever at League One level because Championship defenders are far more athletic/positionally savvy.

All in all, he never could cut the mustard at Championship level, and is now past it age wise too.

Barnes, proper striker? Ha ha, he was just like our current crop of numpties, needs 50 chances to score 1 goal. And he also had a problem with petulance for good measure.
The best striker apart from leo we have had in recent years now plays for palace, sad isn't it?

But the problem was that he was played out of position so often, which people seem to conveniently forget, unlike a certain Mr Murray ,he was after all our top scorer when he was .

Well he scored over fifty goals for the Albion with a scoring rate of roughly one every three games, a very respectable record considering he wasn't even played as an out and out striker the majority of the time. Don't tell me you wouldn't swap Barnes for any one of our current strikers.

Great post. Barnes, like all strikers missed many chances with a non-100% conversion rate, but he was and is a class above CMS ... a better striker, team player, more robust against physical opponents and contributed when shunted elsewhere in a formation to make way for unadaptable CMS or Ulloa.

At Withdean he wasn't booed or slagged off. That crept in when fickle whingers started attending the Amex.

He has absolutely no chance playing on his own. He's a very good L1 striker. Never going to happen for him at a higher level if played by himself. He has the attributes which best fit a partner. Completely inept on his own.

If, in L1 the CB's part ways and leave a huge hole ahead of him, and whilst he's running around he thinks of running into that particular hole, and if there's a decent enough ball player sitting behind that can find the pass that slides past his trailing leg before he's caught offside then yes - he will do OK in L1

Keep persevering with CMS and we'll end up back at his level. Surely Hughton has now seen enough to know he's not good enough?

Admittedly I haven't read all of this thread, all seemed quite repetitive boring posts not really contributing anything.

CMS, wasn't great yeaterday. Did chase down a few lost causes and made chances out of them, which other players don't. Not sure how you claim he's given up. Went down looking like he had a bad injury, managed to play on for us for the last few minutes as we were already down on numbers due to the stupidity of others. How many other footballers would do that for us? CH said he's likely to at least be out for Ipswich game, so clearly got some problem, like to see that sort of commitment in support from those posters...

In his defence football wise, his ball control isn't great, though the build up play was never going to be his strength. He's never going to be an effective lone striker unless your trying to close out a game. He thrives on a target man to knock balls down, and the fact we're too scared to play 2 up top at home is pathetic - only been going on for 4 years now. How many sides have been promoted from Championship playing one up front. Barely any.

If you are going to play one up front and not support. Has to be O'Grady, strength to hold the ball up and win it in the air. Not something you can expect Baldock or CMS to do. Even then, it's difficult to see how he will cause 2 centre backs problems.

Wonder why teams like Brentford and Bournemouth, Ipswich have poorer squads but get better results? They get players forward, cause the opposition defence problems, something we don't do enough = lack of goals

He was woeful yesterday. Any sort of offer for him in the transfer window and he should be shipped out.

I dont think anyone is criticizing his effort and commitment ,and his strengths have not been played to either ,I just think cms has been a square peg in a round hole at Brighton which does not reflect negatively on him but the club to be honest .

Hasn't worked out and should be allowed to move on with the minimum of fuss and not try to squeeze 250k out of Peterborough as he has been nothing less than professional in his stay here.

Those questioning his work rate really do need to have a rethink though.
