He was decent before he went on that trip to China.

After that, he was a waste of skin frankly.

Wouldn't have minded him here on a permanent deal as our Plan B "striker with presence". Think he will be a premier league striker in the future.

Looked ok with us, but I can't say I'm missing him.

He was rubbish for us after that international break he had! In fact no he was utter dogshit! Birminghams play will suit him. Nice and scrappy. Barnes, CMS and hoskins anyday of the week for me thanks.

Darius Henderson type. Prob better than he looked for us. Had glimpses of being very good but also utter horse shit at times

An interesting piece about Chris Wood from a Birmingham City blogger. He's probably got it about right ...

Blues 3 v Nacional 0

Here are my reflections on the second leg of the Europa League Playoff Round tie against CD Nacional.
....

4) Chris Wood

Over the course of the two legs, our Kiwi international striker could have had a real hatful of goals; the fact he hasn’t is a combination of some profligacy in front of the goal, the goalposts and an incredible moment of selfishness from Adam Rooney, who really should have squared it. There is no denying that Wood is raw, but he definitely has talent; he won his fair share of headers, he held off defenders and he got to the right place at the right time to tap home Stephen Carr’s inviting ball (in saying that there were three blue shirts behind him ready for it). From speaking to the [West Bromwich] Albion correspondent at the [Birmingham Evening] Mail, Wood isn’t really needed there so I hope Hughton can convince the board to extend his loan to January – with six European games on top of the league now to come, we’re going to need a bigger squad.

I'm sure he'll improve given his age, but was one of those strikers who would take 5 shots to hit the target and 10-15 to actually score. Didn't punch his weight for me and I really don't think he had any presence either.

Pleased he is doing well, but not better than any of our current players.

I liked the lad but i can't understand how someone so big got muscled off the ball so much & didn't win any headers.

I didn't rate him but he is only 19 and like Barnes who's only 21, they will get better & better as they learn what the defenders at whatever level their playing at are like.

Clearly had potential and would be a decent long term bet. Clearly was average for L1 last year and thus useful. However taking someone so raw and inconsistent on loan as an option off the bench is OK, BUYING him or better singing on a free would have been a good move. Unless a cheap/free perm signing I wasn't fussed about getting him back. Also just cos he's big doesn't make him that 'something different off the bench with presence' striker, he isn't that type, just a big lad.
