Has he scored a goal for the club yet ( at any level )
I'm sorry, I was prepared to give the lad a fair chance but he just ain't good enough.
We've made a mistake...get him out on loan...and get in at least one more credible striker.
Our forward players need to contribute 40-45 goals between them if we are going to get in thetop 6 ( with 30 odd coming from midfield and defence )
Murray should get 15+, Barnes 12+ and another 15-20 have got to come from someone else.
And that someone else ain't Mr. Holroyd...we can't afford to be carrying anyone with a confidence crisis in the penalty box.
I know Gus is looking and I'm hoping for some news soon.

This debate has been done to death and the vast majority of people will say he isn't good enough.
Maybe he needs that first league goal to kickstart him? This is more hope then anything on my behalf as deep down i feel we need to get rid off him, even on loan.

Have you just made that up yourself or is there a bandwagon going past your front door.

I still don't get the logic of slagging Holroyd off.

Fair enough the lad most likely isn't going to make it, but why people come out with this 'get rid' mentality is beyond me. Do you think he's hurting the teams chances by training with them?
Gus took a punt on a long shot and it looks like it won't come in, although there's still time yet.

He's signed a contract, we have to pay him until the end of the contract. He's probably not on that much money.

It's not Chris Holroyds fault we haven't signed another striker, f***ing leave the bloke alone.

Agreed, It's not fair on the lad, the amount of abuse he gets. What do they expect, for him to terminate his own contract and leave ?

I think the logic is that this is an internet message board and therefore probably the right place for opinion. If most people are of the opinion that he's not good enough, it probably means he isn't.

I'd take issue with people slagging him off at the ground, but that's not what's happening here is it?

When was Gary Hart ever a prolific goalscorer & look at the job he's done for us for over a decade?

Once one comes he'll start hitting the net on a regular basis, Just needs a bit of confidence

Quite right. Not saying their the same level of abilty but look at Steve Morison last season at Millwall. He came from non league and didn't score in his first 12 games or something like that and ended up banging them in.

Need to give the guy a chance. Maybe loan him to Creepie Crawley for three months to get his confidence back - all about that as a goalscorer

I agree about discussing players, nothing wrong with that. My concern is with the frequency that holroyd's name pops up, and the snide comments that follow. Very rarely is there anything constructive from the people saying 'get rid'.

Do a search on Holroyd and there will be a many threads of me saying the same thing, and a few with some constructive comments about his pros and cons. The same few serial whingers (steve foster and portslade seagull, surprised they haven't posted on this thread yet) seem to use him as a scapegoat for us not signing another striker, which as I've said is a very odd way of thinking.

There's no way he should be kicked out. I wouldn't even want to farm him out on loan. I haven't seen him very often, but when I have seen him he looks a bit lightweight. On the otherhand, he seems to run into some intelligent positions and would agree he could prove a useful striker at this level once he's up and running.

His main problem is in the box, the problem being that he's scared to go in it for some reason. With that in mind, he hasn't looked a threat at all.

In deeper positions he actually looks quite good, he's comfortable on the ball (I'm guessing a big reason that Poyet likes him) picks a good pass and rarely gives it away.

It hasn't helped his cause being put up front on his own last season, he just wasn't ready or capable. I still think he could offer something playing off Murray or Barnes, but his confidence seems to be so shot now, it'll be hard for him to recover.

One of the reasons Davies failed was that his confidence was destroyed by not scoring and this was fuelled by fans slagging him off....... A self fulfilling prophecy, the more he was criticised the more his self belief was hurt and the less likely he was to score until he had to leave at a financial loss to the club if nothing else.
Hey folks, result! Let's see if we can do it again with Holroyd! After all supporting a young lad who clearly has some talent to make his way in football and who just might (with support) prove a winner for our club would just be too tiresome! I know we live in an age of instant result but try cutting him some slack. If the same criteria had been applied to us in the workplace when we started out how many of us would have stayed in a job?

Didn't Kurt Nogan take an age to score his first goal, and then he couldn't stop.

Anyway, I still think Holroyd will come good, as long as everyone gets off his back. I'm sure he's got enough issues with this himself, doubting whether he can step up to this level etc. Gus clearly sees enough in him that he survived the striker cull this summer, and he is probably doing all he can to ensure the lad stays confident in his own ability. Let's not keep undoing Gus's hard work by continually slating the lad.

C'mon Chris, I'm behind you!

Agree with that. Even Peter Ward needed a goal to kick start his game
