I find it fascinating that we all offer views on what he is worth. I have not seen him. I know little about him. I am guessing bloom et al have a better idea. We get some wrong but it is their money. I don’t care what it costs as long as bloom thinks he is worth it then that is good enough for me.

Makes sod all difference to you and I if it is 40 million or 20.

Not true. Clubs misspending puts them in financial difficulties.

That might be as extreme as Portsmouth, or be less severe where we can't sign the players we want and get psr penalties.

If we spent £100m on this player as an extreme example, that has massive implications on our finances, as would restrict spending on other people, create a loss in the future, and so that's money that would likely be better spent elsewhere.

We should and can care about how the club is run, where money is spent and are entitled to have an opinion if someone is going value or not.

That said, I do broadly agree that in the wider context of fully trusting Bloom etc. it's his money and decision to make.

In the history of football there's barely been one world class greek striker. And we are buying 2 incredibly expensive ones in the space of one summer lol.

Why is Greece suddenly a decent market ?!?

Greek talent is so few and far between that the best player of ALL time was a Leicester regular when they were crap, the 4rh best player of all time was a Sheffield utd regular! ...history is not on our side with these transfers.

I’ve seen a lot of stupid reasons to write a player off on here, but a Top 10 list from “sports mole” might be the stupidest.

You never fail to top yourself, fair play.

Not just that, but I can name any number of players that come from nations without teams of "legendary players" that have produced talent.

Should we have not signed Mitoma because there haven't been many successful Japan players in the Premier League? Or Minteh, because he's from The Gambia?

Talent is talent. I don't need their country to produce hundreds of top players to know there's potentially gold in there.

Besides, so far as I can recall Greece have won more major honours than England in the last 50 years.

Good points although as fans there is sod all we can do about it. I think Wieffer was a waste bang average but it’s done now £25m gone.

I don't think Weiffer has been a waste at all. He's been improving every game, he's versatile and has been a big reason as to why we're were picking up points later in the season.

The fact is, £25m isn't a lot of money in today's market. Like many of our signings, it's totally redundant judging them on one injury-hit season.

It's quite strange that there is no source from outside Greece talking about this, and with that kind of transfer amount. A big gamble from the club.

Oddly, a write off from the big D normally means that we're in store for an exceptional player. His judgement on Kudus and Hinshelwood is legendary.

This might be a whoosh but there’s multiple links to the Argus, various Sky outlets and The Athletic reporting on this transfer in the last 24 hours and linked to from this thread.
