I suppose that's the only different factor in the last 10 years or so, people screaming at the lab bred Rats and Cockroaches or gagging while eating an eyeball remain boringly the same. The show always follows the same pattern, they all meet up full of fun and hope, lots of screams later and they are miserable and dwindling in number, then they usually say " I don't want to win this, I just want to go home to my wife/hubby/mum". Tired format, mind you most formulaic TV is these days.

Rubbish.
There were two important factors.
In 2017 the final show was scheduled against Planet Earth II on BBC which drew in millions.
Secondly, they went all on out of the celebrities last year to make up for Ant's absence. They had to.

Under the headline "Will Holly return ?" , it simply repeats the statement she made earlier in the year that she won't be returning.

For the wrong reason.
They will find it very hard to match the older male line up from next year. They went big time because Ant was missing.
What that probably saw was a lot of older viewers returning to the show, who had turned off because of the unknown reality TV stars who attract younger viewers.

So last year there was really something for everyone and it received a much wider demographic across the viewing public.
BG is wrong to think it was about the presenter. If the viewing figures dip this year it will be everything to with the "weaker" cast.
It really is a very clever and funny television format that differs from "reality television". It's simply the greatest and biggest game show that has ever been devised.
