Had to wait for our train back to Newcastle after Saturdays game and parked ourselves in a pub near the station to watch reading v man u, quite pissed by this point and got chatting to some horrible looking meatheads who claimed to be the hardest firm in the north.

Rather than kick our gay southern arses they we're intent on showing us round Carlisle and telling us how great it was, we had already made plans in Newcastle so couldn’t take them up on their offer.

Nice bunch of lads. Their friendliness was mirrored later that night by the girls in the bigg market.

why are northerners so friendly?

That'll be the border city firm - quite tasty on their day , can easily muster a good 50 or so lads. Proper football boys won't give you any hassle unless your looking for it.

Up here in Hudds all the local are friendly in the days when the Cresent was still open some of Towns firm used to congregate in there or the cob and pen which has now changed hands been revamped etc - but was in there once and they must have heard my accent got chatting seemed ok - told me tale sof rucks with Bradford and a time they had a go at Cardiff at teh George hotel - Friendly though asked what i knew of Brightons firm - said i didn't think we had one just a few big mouths who give it large in the safety of the ground.

I was at Millwall vs Hudds in 1985ish.

Cup game I think it was. Brighton were miles away that day. My brother and I went along.

The game was stopped for 25 minutes whilst the police tried to get the millwall fans off the pitch and down to the other end of the ground as the Hudds "lads" had "taken" the Millwall home end behind the goal.

It was like world war 3 out there...we were in the main stand talking in very loud cockney accents praying that no-one spotted my Huddersfield scarf.

Do you remember a coloured lad called Clarence wore a beret used to follow town - heard he was a bit of legend in is day.

I didn't think this was a hoolies celebration thread just stating facts.

I remember him.......

There was also a guy I think they called him "washer" or something like that.......he was a huge bloke who you certainly did not mess with

Its not a celebration....i was just suggesting that the Hudds hoolies at one time were not angels at all.

I actually find the idea of being in a firm quite alluring - going away with a bunch of lads etc few beers scouting places out etc must be an adrenalin rush - don't like the idea of getting a kicking though and i would get one not being the biggest lad in the world - therefore that's why i wouldn't be intrested but can see why alot of people are.

Some blokes will always want a punch up - football is used as vehicle to carry this out.
