I remember that phrase as well. Always seemed to applied to those of us who favoured Paul Smith, Smedley, Bass, Duffer, MA1s, etc rather than those frightful oiks in their grubby shellsuits.

Dandyman, I remember dressers from being around the time that I was in VIth form at school which puts it in the early 80's, probably before the clothes designed by Paul Smith or Duffer made an appearance. I may be totally wrong though as my knowledge of fashion is far less than that required to tell the difference between a moth, bat and humming-bird!

Well...I left 6th form in 1981 so it is much the same period...may need to scan some old photos....
