Boundstone have contacts with the club one of them being me - I took a small groups to the Tranmere and Forest games and I'm looking to run another trip to possibly the Oldham game. I don't know about the other schools in the area.

There are a couple of problems in getting the kids in - namely they need an adult to go with them (more if it is a bigger group) which can sometimes be difficult on Saturday when it is supposed to be a day off of work - it doesn't bother me because I go anyway but getting others to come can be problematic. Legal rules state that the teacher- pupil ratio is about 1:10 and if any girls want to go you have to get female teachers to go too which can be very difficult.

Secondly, there is the paperwork at the teachers end, as it is run as a school trip I have to jump through a large number of bureaucratic hoops just to receive permission to go which can be off putting to some and too much hassle for others.

Lastly, there are the kids themselves - I had 12 who pleaded to go and only 5 who bothered to pay any money for Forest trip, the others dropped out with various excuses.

It's all very well moaning about it perhaps a few of you would actually like to do something about it. BTW this is not aimed at the thread starter who did.

Do you guys realize how much the club already does?

Albion in the Community

Don't want to put you down or anything but the club does do an awful lot with local schools, and has got quite a great reputation for being one of the best...

Have you also thought that there are kids locally who aren't allowed? My next door neighbours would go to a football game "over my dead body" reports my neighbour!

No point in dropping the prices as no-one will renew their season tickets.

Why we have not been sent a renewal yet clearly shows the club need to think this through propoerly just for once and not rely on the usual renewal tosh.

Common sense from Tedebear as usual. The club are working hard at this, you can't force people to go.

The best way of boosting the crowd would be to get a stadium worth attending , the Withdean will loose BHA a generation of surporters , no atmosphere , indifferent football and seriously over priced.

The club may well have contacted the other schools but if no teacher is interested then there is not a lot they can do. The other side of the coin is for local youth teams to contact the club themselves and organise the trip. That part is quite easy to do.

And not every teacher is a Brighton supporter, so if they have a choice of running a school trip to Brighton or a premiershite match I think I know which one they will choose.

As I said before rather than constantly whinging about it why don't you do something to help?

So how much discount do they give? Not many kids can afford £45 a ticket for concessions.

Tedebear makes a good point about her neighbour and their views about football, that was exactly the situation my brother and I found ourselves in, our dad refused to let us go to football matches. Admittedly this was in the late 70's and early 80's when the atmosphere, steward baiting aside, was not quite as benign as it is now.

The turning point was when someone donated tickets to an Albion game to our school (Steyning Grammar), they did a free raffle to win them and yours truly had his name drawn out of the hat. As it was my brother who had actually entered my name I shared the cost of his ticket and two new supporters were created. At that time I had already been following the Albion for a few years, my brother was a plastic Manc, going to the game cemented my support and gained his.

The idea of bringing school kids to games is an excellent one, I am sure that it will win a few over to following their local team, just as it did with my brother.

I bought my girlfriends 2 nippers a shirt each, and you wouldn't believe the effect it can have. The youngest (3) creates merry hell if his Brighton football shirt isn't washed every morning for him to wear. I took the oldest (6) to her first ever game a few weeks ago (Rotherham), and she was crying her eyes out when we had to go home, and pesters me every week to take her again

Here goes-

Currently there is a major obsession with obese kids and healthy eating combined with exercise something apparent kids don't do or now anything about.

So get someone at the club - i'd even do it for them free of charge to write to the local county and borough councils in teh catchment area - to sponsor in some way either by helping with cost or providing Albion related incentives ( free tickets, tarining sessions with players to be won) to coincide with the council/educaction departments projects to encourage and implement new sports programmes in schools as well as promoting healthy eating.

If need be get all the schools involved in a big county wide competition with the winners geting sports equipment - trips to the Withers etc etc.

Since these kids aren't already Albion fans, please say why they would feel that it's an 'incentive' to go to a game or train with players?
