I'm going to ask again, which I do every time it's mentioned...what is woke? to me it's after you've been asleep??
According to AI (and I think it’s fairly accurate)

"Woke" generally means being aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues, particularly those related to social justice and racial equality. It originated in African American English as a term to describe awareness of racial prejudice and discrimination, often in the construction "stay woke". While initially used by activists within the Black community, the term has gained wider mainstream use, but its meaning and interpretation have evolved.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
    • Original Meaning:
In African American English, "woke" meant being alert and aware of social injustice, particularly racial injustice.
    • Mainstream Use:
Over time, "woke" has been adopted by a wider audience to describe awareness of social and political issues, including racial and gender equality.
    • Political Interpretation:
The term has also become a point of political contention, with some using it negatively to label socially liberal ideas or individuals as overly sensitive or politically correct.
    • Right-wing Criticism:
Right-wing groups often use "woke" in a derogatory sense to criticize progressive or liberal viewpoints, often implying that those who identify as "woke" are out of touch with reality or excessively concerned with social justice.

Doesn’t seem to know what woke means, doesn’t know the name of his favourite karaoke song, he seems a bit of a wally.

Yet in my experience, it is Right-wingers/Brexitters/Tory-tabloid-readers and Farage/Trump worshippers who are over-sensitive, easily 'triggered', and permanently offended, who want to ban/sack/silence any public figure (Gary Lineker, Chris Packham, etc) whose views they don't like, and who wallow in their sense of persecution and playing the victim - even while accusing 'Woke' of Cancel Culture and silencing free-speech. They really don't see the irony or hypocrisy of their shouting 'It shouldn't be allowed' or 'S/He should be sacked for saying such things publicly'.

'Woke' is the latest attempt to discredit and delegitimise socially progressive values or commitment to fairness and equal treatment, just as 'loony Left' and 'political correctness' were used as terms of abuse or ridicule in the 1980s and 1990s.

The sound of angry, ageing, embittered Right-wingers raging against the dying of the light.
